Go into developer options and change animations from 1x to either .5x or off.

Always run with animation off, much faster this way

Not really. It's just speeds up the device. Definitely worth going to .5x.

Go into settings, about, and tap on build number multiple times.

Are you suggesting lowering or turning off all of the options that reference animation?

Oooh I found something interesting under Developer Tools (thanks for sharing btw, Conite):
under Apps, Dont Keep Activities (destroy every activity as the user leaves it)

This is tempting. I nearly always close my apps after im done with them (I press square and X the apps im done with, rather than the triangle the majority of the time). Is that what this means? Anyone try this? Thoughts as to why I shouldn't enable?

Doze is there to di the job, you dont have to close app each time you use it. If you enable this setting, let's say you are in browser and you leave to answer a message, when you go back, your browser will have to restart, not a good idea . If we could do by app, it will be great, but it's not.

This noticeably speeds up my device. Begs the question as to why .5 is not the default. Do some people like it slow? Does speed create problems? I would never on my own find this!

I turned all animations off a week ago and haven't had any issues. It's almost too fast now with app navigation

Go in to developer option in settings and change anything to do with animations.

Not without setting everything back to default.

While we're at it, does setting the background process limit to 1 or 2 make a difference in RAM/CPU usage, or battery life?

    I'm liking this .5 speed.

What other tweaks can we do on this scale?

I wouldn't recommend changing the background process limits. You should let Android manage this for you.

Changing the animation durations doesn't improve battery life or speed up your device. It simply speeds up the actual animation, lower end devices should always stick with 1x, while higher end devices could benefit from 0.5x animation speed as the device can open an app/animation much faster, therefore making it appear as if the phone is faster while in fact it only speeds up the animation itself.

I've had my PRIV set to .5x for over a year. After a recent factory reset it felt SO SLOW at 1x. .5x should absolutely be the default.
