Why? Since you can't buy the phone without paying VAT it really doesn't matter how much it is without taxes. All that counts is the final price - and if that is 599 in Germany then it's going to be yet another overpriced BBRY launch.

Launch ... but what about announcement. Normally companies announce a product before launch. Crickets from BlackBerry's offices.

I've always been of the opinion that when you announce a device, you should have the product available.

I'm still hoping for an announcement. The price in Europe seems a little high though. But at least we have a 2016 release date

It's accurate. Unless BlackBerry changes their mind once again.
What do you think about the price?
    599 euros is about $657!
(I don't know about the taxation structures of Europe)

Won't be buying from EU, so kinda hard to care and direct conversion to USD doesn't make sense anyway as they're always priced per market. There's always variances there plus the inclusion of VAT vs. state taxes.

The price is way too high. Cheapest CAD price was 632 which would equal about 440 €. Now add 20% for taxes and you'll be at 529 €. That's the price I was expecting. Now MediaMarkt is not known to be particularly cheap but somehow I doubt it will be sold for 70 € less somewhere else.

    Thanks! (y)
BlackBerry sure did push their marketing but only the software
We can expect something for the phone around launch in the WSJ and Financial Times? *just curious*

Blackberry gave an ad on wall Street journal about their software offerings and how software is the new blackberry, but nothing about the new handset that's going to release in a week. Ladies n gentlemen that's Mr Chen the ceo of blackberry for you.

Sure you can. Just buy it in Delaware.

No, that doesn't help as the VAT will still be collected upon importing it to the EU. That just avoids double taxation.

EDIT: Sorry, you're right of course - if you buy it in Delaware and don't export it to anywhere, then you'll have entirely avoided all VAT. But that's really just a very small percentage of folks who can do that.

So in Switzerland it will be CHF999.--, priced for Swiss customers....

Only on a Blackberry Forum would the year of the release date be more important than the day and month ^_^

    Ah this made me laugh.

Both, I'm guessing. I doubt there will be a pre-order period.
Apple does both, excitement and "immediate" availability.

Apple's MacBook Pro rumoured release date is Oct. 27th, not sure if this is coincidential or purely Apple trying to steal the fire.

I really doubt that Apple factors what BB are doing into their decision-making ... at all!

To Apple, BB are an irrelevance, and have been for years.
