Mulling over my first Android purchase.

Just wondering if there might be members who have experience with a Oneplus 3.

Hard to say. You need to find someone with both phones to get a good opinion. I know both devices are really good but the OP3 I rootable where the dtek is not. Some will bring security into the argument but a phone is only as secure the user himself. I myself have Privs, Dtek50s and Dtek60s. if you are looking for a decent priced device with with good specs and guaranteed updates, the Dtek60 is the way to go. If rooting and loading custom ROMs is your fancy, the OP3 a the way.

Basically it comes down to what use you will give the phone. If you are interested in more precise opinions, start there.

What apps do you normally use?
Is the phone personal, business or both?

    Hope this helps.

I've owned a OnePlus One for two years now, and it is literally the best smartphone I've ever owned. And this is coming from an active BBOS and BB10 compatriot.

The DTek60 is a great device, so comparing it and the OP3 is sort of pointless in certain areas. I will say this, in support of the OP3. If you want a futureproof device, with as much community support as the Nexus line of smartphone, get the OP3. I would have bought an OP3, but I can't come up with a valid reason, to retire my OPO other than the desire to have a newer phone.

There's no legitimate argument to purchase the DTek60 - you're bound to have many quote "security", but they couldn't point to which part of the device, or where in the OS offers this feature - outside of the fact that you just want to support BlackBerry. And that's perfectly fine to do. Don't let me or anyone clown you about how you spend YOUR hard earned money. Between the two, the OP3 has the best support system of any Android device, other than the Nexus and Pixel line.

    Thanks for the posts.

Retirement is sooner rather than later. So it will not be used for "work". Given our hobbies the camera is crucial. Any ideas on how the quality of the cameras compare (I don't think the DTEK camera has been independently reviewed?)

One Plus 3 camera is probably the best camera I've seen in a smartphone.
Especially if it comes to low light conditions....
And the phone it self is a beast, really, really powerful.
My only concern about OP3 is their update strategy, had to wait ages to get Android 6 on my wife's OnePlus X.

oneplus 3 has top of line specs for about 100 less than the dtek60. They have been pretty good about the security updates, I am on last months security patch and Andriod N should be out soon. Camera is probably the best I have used besides my IP7+, low light is pretty damn good.

I have never had to make a return with oneplus but it might be a little harder route than BB but cant say for sure. I would say that the hardware is always been great with no defects on all my OP devices.

The DTEK does have the BB security but I value rooting my device more than what BB says they do to protect me lol.

Anyway there is no way i would trade my oneplus3 for the dtek. its more money and I dont value anything extra on top the hardware that the dtek60 provides.

Honestly I think if your not tech savvy, go with the Dtek60 it will be somewhat secure and less things to worry about, there is a lot less tech wise that you can play with as you can't root it. But if you like to root your device and have a fairly complicated set up with tons of options to change things , then i would go with the op3.

I got the Priv, when in first hit T-mobile stores. I love the form factor, but...there's seriously no real comparison.
Security wise, unless I'm not paying attention, nothing can function on my device without my explicit permission. I have root, and zero root vulnerabilities. If I need to check, I start the built in Terminal and type in the correct linux commands, and get the proper report I need.

I have full swipe gestures, so it feels like my Z10 - root is required. And since Blackberry released Hub+ with the Apps Suite, the things I missed most about BB10 are on my OPO. I even have the Priv vkb - long before Cobalt blessed use with an easier method of installation.

If you were waiting for Oxygen OS, I feel your pain. If you toggled on Root, you could have installed any of the unofficial OS, or the any of the CM13 snapshots or nightlies. Thanks the thing about android, and ESPECIALLY the OnePlus line, you don't have to wait. Do it yourself.

Right, but then you may have problems using the device as a daily driver. Our company doesn't allow rooted devices.

I tried numerous other devices recently before getting my Priv, for me the BlackBerry software is what sold me, it just seems to work so well, and for me the security touches are nice to have. So DTEK would be my choice

A rooted device typically cannot be activated on any MDM (for good reason) and in addition Android Pay, along with other financial apps, will check and many will refuse to work at all (Android Pay is known to refuse) -- again, with good reason.

The bigger problem for me with the OP3 is no SD card slot.

It has low brightness low end amoled 1080p screen that really looks dated when beside any decent qhd smartphone. Also the op3 camera is ultra mediocre, and its video capture is extremely shaky with poor focus.

All this has been documented in many many review vids available on youtube.

Regarding the 6gb's ram its nice but totally unnecessary as oneplus fans will upgrade the phone for the poor screen in a year at least en mass.

The dtek60 is the better buy imho if you don't plan on rooting the phone. Better screen, better encryption, better speakers, up to 2TB sd card slot, qualicomm uniform fast charge...etc etc.

Just bought the One Plus 3 for a friend of mine. It's awesome- you won't get more phone for your money- especially if you compare it to other phones (including the DTEKs) without a PKB- i own a Priv and a Passport because of the PKB and would always prefer it, but if you don't "need" the PKB, i would buy the One Plus 3 and would install the BlackBerry Hub+ ^n it to get "the real feeling"- btw: the fast charging option with the One Plus 3 leaves you breathless

Given that I am coming from a BB10 Q10 phone I am thinking it would be easier and be more successful doing the necessary transfer of data from my Q10 to the DTEK60 than to the OP3?

I don't quite understand what point you’re trying to make!
You prefer the 6Gb vs the 4Gb of Ram and the 64 Gb vs 32 Gb of built-in storage in the oneplus 3 compared to the DTEK60, whereas you don’t mention the inferior screen resolution (1080 x 1920 pixels vs 1440 x 2560 in the DTEK60), the inferior screen pixel density (401 vs 534 ppi), the inferior camera (16 Mpixel vs 21 Mpixel) and all the sequrity specs BlackBerry offers!
OK, the oneplus 3 is offered with the same price (499,--), so is it worth to loose all the security? I, personally don’t think so!

the price isnt the same, its 399 vs 499

MP dont mean a camera is better, the low light performance is quite good and I have never had any complaints about the quality from the pictures it has taken.

On paper the screen is "better" but i assure you the screen on the oneplus is fine. I doubt you would tell much difference between the 2 devices. Saves a little on battery too. Its not "inferior" in real life use.

Also I have dual SIM capabilities which I didnt mention before. This is a nice option letting me swap between tmob and att if I want. For many people this is huge.
