Have only taken a few shots at night and they were average.

i.e. When pinched in they look cartoony.

I took a few shots at the finish line of a 5k I ran yesterday with the DTEK60.

It's impressive. The instant shutter release makes it easy to get exactly what you want, and in sufficient light the camera selects a high enough shutter speed to stop most action -- including a runner. It also nailed the focus, and color balance and saturation are spot-on.

The Priv had a tougher time getting these shots because the shutter release was slower. You had to lead it a bit. Not this one. That's what we were told to expect, and it's real.

I'd really, really like a raw mode (a switch to store *both* raw and JPEG so you can immediately use one, and post-process the other, hopefully in separate directories!) but the camera is extremely competent in "everyday" types of use, it beats the Priv IMHO due to the immediate shutter release and I can't argue with it otherwise.
    Can you post your pictures?
And you can change the shutter speed on the PRIV

Yes, you can change the shutter speed on the Priv and it selects an appropriate shutter on its own as well. However, there is materially more shutter lag (by a lot) on the Priv than the DTEK60, and when it comes to any sort of action photo where the instant of capture matters the DTEK60 wins big.

As for posting the pictures anything you post here or on most other "social" sites will be downsampled and thus you're not seeing what's actually there. This makes bad look better and great look lesser. In other words it's pointless here except for small areas of 100% crops where you can illustrate specific problems and issues.

Has their been any updates to get new phone that twirks the camera or shall I say Upgrades it at all? Sorry if I've missed anything but just been reading up on how nice of a new BlackBerry this is except some mixed camera reviews.

Was thinking perhaps a small upgrade would possibly help right?

    Cheers

I'm finding that the camera on this phone does not focus as well as my z30. If I take a picture and then zoom in on the details my z30 was sharper. For example if I take a general picture of my kitchen, the time on the microwave is clear in the z30 pictures when I zoom in. I hope it is something I am doing or not doing and not the camera. Hmmmm.

I have also noticed focusing issues on other people's pictures with the Dtek60.

If it's any consolation to DTEK60 buyers, I bought the "sister" phone (Alcatel Idol 4s with Windows) and the camera blows. Wonderful device with looks and speakers to die for but the camera has been a huge letdown.

Here are a couple pictures of my friends son's birthday. They had the lights turned down for singing happy birthday. Since children don't stay still, I think the focus is pretty good capturing movement. He is blowing out the candles so his head is moving. I am satisfied with the Dtek 60 picture quality. I believe future updates will make it better

    Nope.
No, the DTEK60 is based in the Alcatel 950, not the Idol 4S.

Wrong, no such phone (Alcatel 950) exist. You're referring the TCL 950.

Unfortunately, we don't have any DTEK60 photos to compare largely due to the fact that a lot of reviewers won't pick the phone up but will pass their judgements...from these links, it's clear that even the phones touted as best all have one flaw or the other and I'm pretty sure the DTEK60 would take decent photos that would stand these in some conditions while also having its own flaws. In the end, it's all a matter of preference. Of you like them bright or dark or toned, etc.

the priv is the perfect blackberry that shows why they failed in hardware. overpriced for the specs it came with.
It came with top of the line specs minus the 2 MP front sensor. I don't think it was over priced, it was over priced because it's a blackberry and no average consumer was willing to pay $800 for a blackberry in 2016. Slap an apple logo on it and it may have been the best selling phone ever.
