From what I understand the one that comes with it is QC2 so if you buy a QC3 it will charge even faster as it supports QC3

QC 3.0 does require a USB-C to USB-C cable to function, which isn't exactly mainstream yet.

The included quick charger is 2.0 complaint and plenty fast itself. I do have a 3.0 charger myself, it's faster but not necessarily worth the investment yet.

I might not have phrased this correctly. I'm basically asking if we need a QC 3.0 adapter to experience 3.0 speeds on a phone that has 3.0 capabilities.

Remember than with quick charge 3 , you absolutely need an high quality cable supporting QC 3 .

You will need a QuickCharge 3.0 capable charger as well as a USB-C to USB-C cable to experience the new charging standard.

By the way this was with the regular charger not the free Quick charger 2 that came with the free case... for those who bought early. I'll try the free QC 2 one later when I get to 15% left again...

The free QC 2 charger (RC-1500 NA) that came with the free case, took 1 hour to charge from 14% to 100%. The output says 1.5A/9V and the standard charger that comes with the phone says 2A/9V... when I get the Quick 3 charger from Amazon I'll let you guys know.

My little USB charge analyzer says the in-box charger produces 9V @1.75A for a charge rate of ~16W, but the phone is, right now, pretty close to full.

I'll check it when it's nearly empty with a bunch of different chargers and report back, but that's very good in terms of charge rate....

The QC3.0 charger in my car produces 6.25V @ 2.75A, for a total charge rate of ~17 watts (from the charger, measured by volt and ammeter.)

Note that QC3.0 (and 2.0) negotiate between the device and the charger. QC3.0 is supposed to produce less heat and this makes sense; you want to be reasonably close to the battery's actual voltage (down-regulating the voltage to a safe level for the battery dissipates heat) and so you'd prefer more amps than more volts (over that necessary to actually charge the battery), all other things being equal if one of the goals is to deliver charge while minimizing heating. The QC2.0 charger was producing 9V, so all things being equal it would tend to heat the phone more than the QC3.0 one.

In other words what appears to be going on here is that QC2.0 has three possible voltages to negotiate; 5V, 9V and 12V. The QC3.0 charger, on the other hand, appears to have a continuous range of voltage available instead of just three steps.

The in-phone app says I was accepting charge at just over a 2700mah rate. At just over 4v that's ~11 watts delivered into the battery; the rest is used to power the phone (screen was on) and of course there are losses. If the battery is 3,000 mah @ 4.2V nominal then it's 12.6Wh, so if you can deliver @ 11 watts in roughly an hour you can charge from nearly empty to full. In reality it's probably an hour from nearly empty to 85-90% as I expect transfer to slow down materially at that point due to how charge acceptance works in batteries.

I have had pretty good luck with the packed in QuickCharge 2.0 charger so far. I haven't used my 3.0 charger much so far since 2.0 does so well.

I think I'll end up keeping the supplied BlackBerry charger (or one of my Samsung QC2.0 chargers) in my car since my car has a built-in power 115V inveter so I don't usually carry around car chargers.

Both are QC2.0 as far as I can determine from actual testing of their output (I have a USB power analyzer.)

The one in the box is smaller so if you want something to toss in the bag for when away from home, that's the one. The extra one included has the same output as far as I can determine and is a good "primary" charger for your house.

QC3.0 will charge at least equally fast and possibly more-quickly. The "quicker" will not come from the charge acceptance rate (the phone is throttling it already even with QC2.0) but from the fact that QC3.0 uses more current and lower voltage, and thus the regulation in the phone requires less heat dissipation.

This means that a QC3.0 charger will be less likely to throttle the charge rate, especially as the phone gets closer to fully charged.

I would say yes. As it was a bit faster (5 minutes) for me. The free QC2 is one where you can get attachments for other countries etc... from what I see. As the plug part just twists on to it... I'm looking forward to getting the QC3 from Amazon it was only $15 CDN
