Yes. The DTEK60 is essentially the TCL950, BUT is upgraded with the QHD screen from the 4S.

you wouldn't know until the teardown come up in ifixit... some time, the difference could be in the bin of components (narrow operation performance, or wider temperature range for operation), you can't tell even with tear down - that is why some times you see copy cats get cheaper phone using identical parts - you just don't know it is the lower grade or different MFG location of the same components...

What is your issue about the phone being assembled in China? iPhone 7 and the new Pixel are a well. The Samsung S7 is half made in China.
What's the issue? Name one phone manufactured in Europe, USA or Canada?
BlackBerry needs to sell it at an amount to at least break even so I'm sure selling this high spec phone at $399 USD would mean taking a loss and parts, labour, support, online marketing, and all the costs getting the phone in your hands.
It costs over $500 for an iPhone 7 to be made all-in so now you know the tight margins for Apple.

I have zero problem with the fact it's Chinese. On the contrary it's the persons defending the higher price that's bashing the Chinese OEMs as an excuse for BlackBerry to charge more. I'm just trying to get them to get over that, saying get the BlackBerry @$500 because it's better than an equally spec'd Chinese device for $400 doesn't make much sense.

For me if BlackBerry is involved in quality control in anyway, which I would think they are, then the value added is acceptable for me.

If it's $ 629 can with portable battery I might get it, but I may wait until February til ' I decide. Maybe BlackBerry will make their last in house Passport Slider in Android . That would be the ultimate for me.

Everybody that is saying it is too much is a cheap person. Sorry but It has to be said. It is a flagship device with very high specs and almost HALF the price of any other flagship out there. And for you to know, it is not pricing that will help BlackBerry but an actual great phone for once.
Half the price of any other flagship? The iPhone 7 is $699. An S7 is $699. $700/2= $350

At $530 the DTEK60 is closer to both of those phones than it is $350.

Man some of these people are delusional about pricing.

You want everything for nothing. 599CAD for a high end smartphones is a solid fair price. Don't be a lame cheap skate.

Where did you see 599CAD? Mobile Syrup says 530 USD 700 CAD.

I honestly don't know what the problem is with the price. It's a reasonable price if it comes in cheaper than the Google pixel. The specs are so similar. The BlackBerry stuff makes it a way better phone than the pixel in my opinion.

Ah... yes, I didn't capture your comment correctly

    Now as I check & compare DTEK60 with TCL950, although main specs remain very identical / same, but there are still few differences apart from the screen;

    TCL950 64GB Internal storage
    DTEK60 32GB Internal storage

    TCL950 Full HD Resolution
    DTEK60 QHD Resolution

    TCL950 Dual SIM
    DTEK60 Single SIM

    TCL950 Expandable upto 128GB
    DTEK60 Expandable upto 256GB

Keep in mind the est. $699 price is Canadian, not American.

In Canada, Samsung is selling the S7 for $830 plus tax through its store. Carriers are selling it for around $900 outright. I did see Costco selling it outright for $720 at one point but it is no longer available. There are other ways to get it cheaper through promotions but we need to stick to MSRP for comparison purposes.

iPhone 7 plus would be closer in size to the '60 which starts at $1,049 CDN for 32GB and $1,179 for 128GB which is more comparable since the iPhone lacks microSD. This is just a price comparison though as obviously they are different platforms. Just including it since it was referenced.

So, no, even in Canada it's not half the price but you are saving a nice chunk of change. Of course, everyone's budget for phones are different. My comfort level is about $600 CDN taxes in so I'm waiting to see what the EPP price will be and decide after than. Otherwise, maybe the OnePlus 3 at $520 CDN before taxes.

The device is worth $399 BEFORE the BlackBerry value-add. How can they do that?

If you don't think that's worth the extra $100, then you aren't the target market.
So you're saying it's worth $100 more because of the blackberry logo? I'd say it should be worth $100 less with the way consumers view blackberry in 2016 lol

The logo? Don't be intentionally ridiculous. There is a ton of BlackBerry value-add. PLUS the QHD screen.

If BlackBerry can't make money off of that stuff, then they might as well pack it up and license. Oh wait...

I wonder how much it will cost blackberry to produce one. Apple iphone 7 cost about $230-$250 per unit. Since DTEK60 was manufactured by TCL, cost would be a lot cheaper right?

That's what it costs to manufacture but the not Total Cost. This estimate does not include marketing, retail, customer service, expenses or labour costs etc etc at Apple. I have heard the true cost is around $520 USD.

Yes, I meant just a manufacturing cost that includes labor, not including marketing, customer service. So how much it cost to blackberry to manufactured via alcatel per unit? It can't be higher than apple right?

^ much of the design cost went into... changing antenna design, home button, and removing head phone jack. Great use of design time.

Love all my BlackBerry's, but there an awfully a lot of competition out there right now it's crazy. I will have to think a little more about buying anything else. (Using Priv right now)
I don't that anyone mentioned anything about Asus Zen 3 compared to Dtek 50. Myself I am thinking of the bigger one. Zen 3 Deluxe is around the same price as the Dtek60 . Zen is bigger and has a lot more features, but do I need all the bells and whistles. To me all the phones are becoming to much generic. Look so much like each other . Blackberry should stay the course and keep the keyboard and make a statement be unique. Myself I don't want to be clone and be like everyone else.
Right now I think I'll wait til' February when next BlackBerry comes out.
