I'm ready for live photos of the phone in its entirety. I guess the guessing game will have to suffice.
I never was interested in using a fingerprint scanner, but now the reveiwers can highlight this addition as BlackBerry being late to the game, etc.

That's an interesting question to ask about a device, when properly used, has a surface that is covered with the user's fingerprints.

Yeah, that is a problem you know.....

With that said the implementation of "fingerprint scanners" are supposed to store the data in the TCM (trusted computing module) which is unsealed at boot time. It is, theoretically, not supposed to be possible to forcibly extract said data. The same facility is used to store private keys for certificate use (which is why the Priv, for example, demands that you have a password or PIN set before it will allow you to store a VPN certificate; it wants to stuff that in the TCM, and to do so the TCM needs to have a key established.)

With Touch ID, at least, the module is incapable of outputting the data - it only will compare an input to what it stored from a previous input and output the positive or negative result. Also, what is stored is a hash which means reconstructing a fingerprint from a hash would be like reconstructing a song recording from the lyrics. You can always get the lyrics from the recording a song but you can never reconstruct a recording from the lyrics.

Would it not have to be stored in device? Think about if phone is on Airplane mode?

Anyway, You would have to consent to having bio metrics being stored in the cloud. I doubt Google would want to take on that liability of storing that information and regardless of that I am pretty sure the law does not allow that to happen.

Sure it is... (incapable); I note that the module has updateable firmware....

It gives me more comfort in considering use of a fingerprint scanner.

I must admit that I really do like picture password though.
