Anyone else experiencing ear piece distortion, or is this a flawed device that I have?
I have the same problem. I'm actually in the process of returning mine because of this issue. Quite annoying.
Was hoping for a quick fix.
I have quality issues with mine too but I'll live with it.
Have you tried different head set? I haven't use the original set and use my B&W instead and no problem at all.
I'm talking about the ear piece on the phone itself.
Mine is very clear. Really good sound. Very impressed with it.
Ok, since its part of the speakers how's the audio when playing music?
Seems ok, but I'm not sure the top speaker works
If the top speaker is not working this could be your issue and a hardware one, may have to return it.
I am saddened to see this post and hope it will not be a wide spread issue.
My Dtek60 has also given me "distortion" - Its not distortion - its the speaker blowing -
I got my 60 and it worked great, still does, but one day i guess the ear piece volume had be up really loud and when I called my voice mail I got that crackling distortion sound which I am all too familiar with - I thought thats it I had blown the speaker.. but turning the volume down and using afterward for the next couple days now it seems to be working fine.
And it looks like blackberry has failed to address this issue way back from the first Z10 Days - My last Blackberry phone nearly 3 years ago..in fact my reason for leaving blackberry all together. I bought a Z10 upon first release and within 3 weeks the ear piece speaker had blown. Rogers was unwilling to send me a brand new phone but rather a refurb...The refurb comes and again within a few short weeks the speaker is gone.. Three times this happens - I do not have basic /primary functionality of a PHONE.. So I ordered ear piece speakers from a cell shop - a 10 pack with tools to change them my self. Same thing I changed them and one by one they all blew again and again until finally while once i was changing a speaker I snagged some thing and lost my screen ( no more screen when put back together). 4 or 5 months into it I loved the phone but had had enough - I bough a brand new Samsung note 3 and never looked back - wow I was making phone calls again .. Imagine that .. hearing the other person through the ear piece speaker...It was quite some thing I tell you. LOL- That same Note 3 is right in front of me as I type this 3 years later working as the day I bought it - but I'm using my Dtek60 now as of 3 weeks ago.
See the reason I gave blackberry another chance was that I knew they did not manufacture the Dtek60 - it is an Alcatel Idol 4s - I figured it shouldn't have the same hardware issues a typical BB has right? Well after what happened earlier this week with the speaker crackling I am convinced this is a software issue - The software is flawed where as its sending too strong a signal and literally blowing the earpiece speaker. My speaker is working fine at the moment but I hope blackberry deals with this a little better than rogers did with my Z10 should my speaker go...You should be able to turn up the volume to the max and it should not blow a speaker - this is squarely the fault of blackberry.
I really like the Dtek60 and to be honest I was holding out for a Note 7 around Christmas - we all know what happened to that phone ....I would really like for this phone to last me a good couple years cause changing phones is lets face it pricey- but I do have the option of putting my sim card back into the Note 3 and at which point I will be holding out for a Note 8.
I would be happiest if the Dtek 60 just keeps working and I can keep on making phone calls...:sarcastic:
