Probably too early to tell. I hope when he does he includes a section comparing it to the Priv since many are wondering if they should upgrade.

I figure Bla1ze will have some brief review tomorrow on Berryflow so stay tuned in to that. Should be an Interesting Podcast with the Berryflow Gang.
Wonder if they are going to have an extended episode like they did last week.I'll be listening or watching.

Upgrade. Unless you REALLY need the keyboard, DTEK60 is just flat out a better device.

My understanding is that the DTEK60, despite 21MP and 8MP cameras, is actually worse than earlier models like the Priv and Passport.

I have had both the Passport SE and the Priv, and they both take great pictures with their rear-facing cameras, although their selfie cams are poor. I was hoping the DTEK60 would be better, but I guess not.

It's sad; sounds like the DTEK60 is an epic fail... I don't understand why BlackBerry doesn't understand that quality cameras are essential, particularly with newer younger consumers. Sounds like the DTEK60 is the nail in the coffin for BlackBerry. Very sad.

    I am 😢 crying.

Why do you keep posting this? In different threads. You have a bad habit of doing this. People can read it in the camera thread. Also, you should probably pick up a DTEK60 yourself and try the camera if you're genuinely that worried about it. No amount of still shots posted on a forum are going to give you a hands-on experience.

To be perfectly honest, that's a dumb way of coming to camera conclusions unless it's blatantly obvious one is better than the other, and I'm talking about Motorola V3 RAZR camera tests compared to DTEK60. They should serve as general ideas of how the camera functions, not as definitive statements.

The DTEK60 camera is more than adequate for everyday use, especially when you consider the price range side of things. If you need something better, then pony up the cash to get something better such as the iPhone 7 or the Google Pixel.

    Agree with this,

Personally the camera hype is over hyped,

All cameras these days perform brilliantly and besides when you look at a photo it's not like you gonna examine it's characteristics, im not geeky like that.

8mp for the front camera is brilliant.

Well, I get a lot of great feedback on pics I've taken with the BlackBerry Priv. Was hoping the DTEK60 was comparable.

If possible compare the cameras of the Priv and the DTEK60 in your review
Not sure why people are complaining about the DTEK60 camera in comparison to the Priv (atleast in day light)

Not if it's Daniel Bader. First off the guy is an apple ecosystem dude(has said and mentioned countless times on social media and prior site he worked at) working on android central for some bizarre reason..., secondly he has ridiculous criticisms on blackberry products, just check out his hands on write up on the dtek50 on AC.

    Hi Bla1ze,

Thanks for all your constant and valuable input. I'd be very grateful if you could provide your view on the following points or at least consider including them in a future review:

    1) What would be the main points by which you judge the DTEK60 a better device than the PRIV? Specially, if it's worth the investment to upgrade when the PRIV has been in the market for only a year?

    2) I can acknowledge the better cameras, faster and stronger processor, but aside from these, what can the DTEK60 do that the PRIV cannot? For instance, are there apps available for the former that the latter can't run?

    3) Lastly, aside from the hardened kernel and OS, as well as the price, what advantages does it have over competing Android devices?

In my case, a few subjective points make the PRIV a more suitable phone.

One is having the option of the pkb, which is definitely not on par with the Passport's, but does the job once one gets used to it.

Likewise, a rather nostalgic feeling of it being the last BlackBerry made in Mexico, AFAIK. I also like having the "BlackBerry" legend on the front. Again, subjective but valid points.

Thanks again for any input, I'm honestly interested in the DTEK60 as a possible upgrade to my father's Z30 (although with his use, a DTEK50 could probably suffice).

    Cheers!

Not that I need to speak for Bla1ze, but I'll repost his earlier reply:

As to question #2 re: apps, both devices are capable of running the same apps, there aren't hardware limitations on the Priv that prevent it from running specific apps. Now, can they run the same number of apps at once? Probably not since the DTEK60 has 1 GB more of RAM than the Priv.

Thanks, but If you've noticed, I quoted his original answer, the same one you did. Which is why I've furthered asked for his view on the reasons for his original statement.

I've mentioned subjective points on my behalf, so that's why I'd also like to hear/read his opinion, not question his view.

As per your answer regarding the multitasking capabilities, I can also acknowledge the difference. But then again, Bla1ze has previously stated that he preferred the DTEK50 over the PRIV, which at least on paper, seems a less capable device.

However, in comparison, I can fully and almost unquestionably justify the upgrade from BB10 to Android (apps and OS support).

Definitely missed your original quoted post, my apologies. Won't make the same mistake twice of answering on Bla1ze's behalf so I'll just leave him to it.

I will say though, that in my own research and currently owning the Priv, my decision to now buy the DTEK60 and turn in my Priv is because I couldn't find a reason to keep it outside of the physical keyboard, which is great (no, not on the 9900's level but still useful) but I just don't use it enough to justify keeping it over getting the better spec'd DTEK60.

Plus, I just happen to be at a position where I actually owe Verizon roughly $500 left on the Priv, which is exactly how much the DTEK60 costs from ShopBlackBerry, and I get the added convenience of not having to wait for the carriers to release software/security updates anymore. So I'm basically making the jump before I invest more than I need to with the Priv, which I've enjoyed but have grown weary of while waiting for an upgrade from Lollipop (a Verizon-specific gripe).

No need to apologise and I appreciate your view. I can understand the frustration having a Verizon unit and no upgrade to MM. My first PRIV was an unlocked AT&T unit sold from a third party, which I was glad to part away with and instead get a factory unlocked one back in july.

Due to the first PRIV (stuck on Lollipop), I had several doubts about leaving my beloved Passport and BB10. Thankfully, when I switched to my current factory unlocked unit, those doubts have been far less present (I still prefer the original Hub and overall BB10 UI, but needed certain apps which don't run well or at all on it).

With my current use, I can't find a noticeable advantage of leaving the PRIV and getting another Android device, not even from BlackBerry. I'm glad, for instance of being able to type on a pkb, I get fed up after a while of typing on glass (as on this post).

In comparison, when I had a Q10 I could argue for upgrading to a Z30 and from it to a Passport, due to the unique features each had, aside from the RAM and/or processor's power difference.

Thus, it'd be interesting to learn Bla1ze's and other's reasons for considering such upgrade. I thank you for sharing your views.

As I mentioned, my interest in the DTEK series is considering an upgrade for my father. My gf and mother want to wait for the promised Mercury-Rome, I hope it does come out one day...

This is so wrong. You do not need to put the pictures under a microscope to see the difference. With a good camera you can tell that the colours look very close to real life and detailed in various lighting along with the correct exposure. It is so easy to tell even taking a picture of my room for example what camera is good and not so good. That being said, if you absoultely care about the quality of your photos, as blaze said you'd go for the iphone 7 or the Pixel but really you should not generalize and say all cameras perform pretty much the same.
