Is there an app/ method to backup absolutely everything including all settings/ apps/ preferences etc so that in the event of a loss you can reinstall everything on the new 60 as it was before on the previous?

Not without root really but Google's built-in backup covers a lot anyway.
- Google Calendar settings
- Wi-Fi networks & passwords
- Home screen wallpapers
- Gmail settings
- Apps installed through Google Play (backed up on the Play Store app)
- Display settings (Brightness & Sleep)
- Language & Input settings
- Date & Time
- Third-party app settings & data (varies by app)
Other stuff such as videos and photos are backed up through Google Photos.
Well, yes and no.
adb will do it with -nosystem; it cannot copy the system files but those are already there anyway.
really? It didn't seem to do this for me after a wipe... (WiFi, Bluetooth, home screens)... where is this stored? restored? backed-up?
Home screens are NOT saved; that's app data and BlackBerry's launcher does not save it to the cloud.
Basically app data save/restore to the cloud is an option that app developers have to turn on (it's relatively recent) and *most* Android apps don't have it enabled. There are some fairly decent reasons NOT to save it in many cases (security related, specifically, if there are passwords involved.)
That's why using Nova Launcher is great. I can save my screen as a file to drive and then load it onto another device.
Google Drive assuming you had a backup account enabled.
Hmm I do/did... however those settings never came back... im assuming they should have done so automatically?
