Amazon will be releasing this phone unlocked for $200 on July 10. That's a good price, if you accept lock screen ads. SD 625, 3gb, expandable memory, 1080p display, nougat 7.1.

If I were to purchase this and install blackberry hub, how would it compare to the dtek60, which isn't readily available.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

You might not have to wait long for the BB version of the Idol 5S: All-touch BlackBerry BBD 100-1 could follow DTEK50 soon | Pocketnow

$200 is the price with the ad subsidization, it's $280 without it.

Bell Canada (for comparison) sells the Idol 4 at $300 CAD off-contract and the DTEK50 at $450, although their Idol 4 is the 2GB RAM version.

I see why dtek50/60 are not getting a nougat now. It will affect sales for their newer devices.

The Canadian BlackBerry version of idol 5s is $600?? Versus a regular idol 5s with amazon ads for $200 US? That's not even a fair comparison, no matter how good DTEK software is.

    I don't know the US/canadian conversion, but I bet it's still $500 vs $200. Erk...

The ad-free Idol 5S translates to $364 CAD. If I had to guess, and if BB Mobile haven't smartened up, the BlackBerry counterpart should be in the $450-$500 CAD band. The KEYone is $680-$700 CAD up here, for comparison.

Okay, that sounds better. Still a bit high price, but better. The next question would be when that bbtcl phone gets released (who knows...). The regular idol is out in two weeks on Prime Day. Could be a bigger savings, even.

So by their (TCL) logic and track record, (Dtek 60) the Idol 5 will not be getting any OS updates 7 months after its release it, as they will have another model coming down the pike?

TCL wants to replace someone else's phones with theirs. I don't see how this has any bearing on the OS update policy of TCL going forward.

Yes, if you truly wants to support BlackBerry, you have to stop buying their products. That way they can learn their mistakes. It's really sad how BlackBerry turned out to be...

I am not necessarily trying to send anyone a message. Least of all to BlackBerry, since I don't think that message gets thru anyway. I am just looking out for me. BlackBerry phones used to be the perfect fit for my needs. But not anymore. There are better phones and the security advantage that BlackBerry used to hold is no longer evident to me. So time to move on.

The dtek60 has better specs than the Alcatel counterpart, which explained the price difference back then.

Do we have any official pricing on this new device?

Well, since the DTEKs were BlackBerry's last devices, it's unavoidable.
