I dropped my DTEK50 such that it broke at the top, right by the headphone jack. Turning it sideways worked for some apps for a while, but one of the cracks went to the bottom of the phone. An earlier request for advice here made me decide to repair (economic decision).

The repair facility, The Repair Factory in Nelson, British Columbia, has ordered three different screens from two different suppliers, none of which has worked adequately. Here is their last comment:
"the bottom 2 rows of text on the keyboard are slightly off. For instance, if you click on the 'C' button the top 3/4 will click the 'C', but the bottom 1/4 will click the space bar"

My repair shop wants to give up, as their costs are mounting. I asked them to wait for your advice.

    1. Would it go any better if I sent it to TCL's recommended repair facility in Toronto, ie. are they likely to have a secret answer to the correct screen?
    2. Is there a way to reconfigure a screen after installation to allow the sensitivity points to adjust to their proper fields, ie. correct the misalignment of the bottom two or three rows on the vitual keyboard that causes the example problem they noted?
    3. Would different keyboard software, if that's even an option, possibly correct this issue?

I'm open to and appreciative of all advice, but please hold back the urge to tell me to abandon my DTEK50 and buy a newer phone. I believe the repair shop would enter this thread if there was something needing further discussion, or would at least be happy to relay through me.

Of course, if somebody has a bricked DTEK50 with an undamaged OEM screen on it, I might be interested in it.

    1) Well, they'd at least be able to have the proper screen put in. However, I do find it hard to believe the repair shop would not also have access to the same hardware out of 3 tries. Of course, the suggested repair outlet is always going to be the best option as perhaps there's something else wrong.

    2) Not that I'm aware of.

    3) You can always try. There's plenty of other keybord apps available to be installed on the Google Play Store but if it really comes down to a hardware issue, then anything software related is not likely to resolve it.

Blaize, thank you. Here's further input from the repair facility which is, indeed, an experienced one that ought to have the sourcing needed. Nevertheless, if anyone reading this knows of a Canadian screen replacement that went right and can tell me the source, I'd like to consider another try. Meanwhile, wouldn't it be nice if I could just shrink the display to fit the digitizer's sensors perfectly?

    From the repair shop:
"The issue is definitely a discrepancy between what the digitizer is recognizing and what it's submitting to the OS for input.

There is a debug setting that will enable a little circle to show up on the screen which indicates where the phone believes you've touched. At the top of the screen, it's dead on. As you make your way lower it becomes incorrect. The lower you go the more incorrect the circle is.

So trying an alternative keyboard software won't help. I was using the keyboard as an example of what I am seeing.

I've looked pretty intensively for an option to recalibrate the screen without success. Some phones have an option for this, but they're few and far between."
