Hi, just wondering do I need an anti-virus/firewall package (ie. avast, norton, etc), or does the blackberry come with all the security needed?
Dtek50 comes with nothing except this stupid DTEK App which shows you whether you phone is "safe" or not.
I have installed avast because i did never hear of any pre installed bb safety features regarding malware etc
DTEK is not an antivirus, it is helpful in setting app permissions and seeing what apps are actually using things like location and microphone. I agree the big dial thing is kinda dorky and useless, but the rest of the app is helpful.
BlackBerry also has the hardened kernel, and some other security features.
You don't need any anti-virus unless you download apps from weird places, even if you did get a virus that way, you would also have to give it permission to run.
Anything installed on the phone is subject to false positives and will slow the entire device down.
The best anti-virus is located behind your eyeballs and between your ears.
^ok, but can't you get viruses through emails, and websites?
If you're reckless and/or gullible, yes.
Just get one of the root app and try to install to see if it's rooted
Cheer :)

There is no fully secure phone, only the illusion of it mostly created through marketing and advertising, regardless of price, make, model, brand, OS or maker.
There are things you can do to minimise your risk up to a point and perhaps reinforce some of your phone's software and hardware vulnerability. But that's about it.
The rest is like a bad game of chance...
