My DTEK50 updated to June last night (UK, BlackBerry store, 3). But it also rebooted itself in the middle of the night (so no alarm in the morning). Will monitor this. Hopefully just the phone settling down.

Looking back, seems like this update was very painful for the BlackBerry developers.

Same here, Germany, Shopblackberry, June Update... so now we are waiting for July Update... any one knows if the DTEKS are vulnerable to the WiFi bug patched this month?

Guess what crept in this afternoon? Yep, the JUNE 'security update' issued 5th June...on 15th JULY..
So, now BB, what happens to the July update, and how 'soon' are we talking about??
Appears that the July patch addresses serious concerns..yet we are still behind on Dteks..
    Another month wait perhaps??

If one is lucky and the schedule doesn't slip further, August. I think once BlackBerry pushed two updates in one month for the DTEK50 (January 2017 I believe) to fix a schedule slip, but that doesn't seem likely to me.

Your recap is nice but releasing a security update and getting that update to me are too different kettles of fish. Too often I've been behind multiple months (as many others), and I'm still on the May update even though Rogers says that they've released it! I've pinged servers and removed sim cards til I'm blue in the face and my DTEK50 is unlocked from BlackBerry!

Something has to change here and soon.

If you have an unlocked device from ShopBlackBerry, your carrier is irrelevant.

I'm surprised, because between my family and friends, we all have NA factory-unlocked devices, and get the updates within an hour of each other.

Think you got out lightly, just $80 less, because soon, these Dteks wont be worth much at all...no updates, (OS or security) non rootable, basically heading for an expensive doorstop.. As someone posted on the 'Nougat update' post..
Moto G 4, HALF the price of a Dtek50, yet, has nougat already!!
Yet, Dtek, 'the securest android' doesn't even have the latest security patch, over HALF WAY through the month!!
Anyone who didn't realize that all BlackBerry phones will be unrootable just wasn't paying attention. Many of us consider that a feature, not a limitation.

OK, so where in my post did I mention 'rooting?'
The reply was based on the fact that BB were not providing the 'weekly/monthly' faster updates it was 'touting' on its sales 'spiel' and that the phone was touted as 'the securest android' because they were FASTEST with security updates....
The comparison with the Moto G4 was to show how competitors were selling a phone CHEAPER, and that it weas FASTER at pulling in updates!!

Certainly not interested in 'rooting' phones, just getting what was supposed to be 'promised' when you buy?? No other manufacturer 'legacies' a phone 6/8 months after announcing it, and, virtually all manufacturers offer ONE OS upgrade during a phones life....BB appear to be deciding not to do this...
Nothing at all regarding 'rooting' my friend, nothing at all!!

As said, not interested in rooting, just pointing out the 'blindingly obvious' that BB phones cannot be rooted, therefore when they are no longer supported, they are about as much use as a doorstop!!
Other brands can...You choose BB because you don't want to root..fair enough..I don't root either, but there are those who do!!
Their choice, as is yours, and mine...
Making a point, not telling you what you should/shouldn't do.. doesn't really make any difference to me either way...

So BB used hardware from the Alcatel Idol 3 for the DTEK50

Used some third party software company for delivery of security updates

Made a non proprietary Android software, proprietary to match with iOS /Apple but is using the 3rd Party software delivery system as a scapegoat when it cannot deliver timely updates for even one year

Is stuck on an old version of Android

Charged top dollar for a non-fingerprint, 16GB internal storage sub-par phone , marketed it as the most secure Android in the world, got suckers like me to buy it!

Why use BlackBerry? What's the value add here besides the brand!
Value Added from the brand? Not any more.
I got screwed on the PlayBook.
I got screwed on the Passport when 10 went away.

Now Bkb wants to be a "software company?" Go ahead!!
But I'm not buying any more of "your" phones with blackberry UI, blackberry launcher, yada yada, locked up do you want to wait?

Enjoy your next phone. It sounds like BlackBerry just isn't what you're looking for. I was a satisfied PlayBook customer (still use it daily), and a very, very happy BB10 customer (no plans to switch at this point, though I love the KEYone) , but my expectations are obviously different than yours.

DTEK will carry on for at least the next five years as long as BlackBerry is around which I think it will be.
The new generation 128 phones probably won't be publicly available for the next three years and I don't think they will have them to production stage within 2 years
