As I read through the forums...all I'm seeing are nothing but complaints about the new DTEK50. I almost bought one Friday until I saw all the comments about awful battery life. That is very important to me and I guess a lot of folks on CB. I'm just wondered if that might be solved by a software update since the device just came out

I canceled my order when I found out it was a Idol 4! Glad I didn't pull the trigger.

I was skeptical too. First few days battery life was bad. But 5 days in and it's surprising how good the battery is considering it's the size and weight. I get at least 4.5 hours of screen on time and a good quickcharge 2.0 charger is an awesome addition. Now that the battery life has sorted itself out, man I really like this phone.

Have you had to do any tricks to cripple the phone like slow down sync time, turn off location, etc? I don't wanna have to do that stuff just to make it through the day.

The DTEK50 and Idol 4 are both built off the same basic TCL reference device, but they have fundamental hardware and software changes.

OP, I find that comments have been very positive here on the DTEK50. I have several and find them to be quick, solid devices.

Right. But I think the Idol 4s is a totally different phone.

If not used heavily, they easily get through the day. Hard abuse will demand a quick charge in the afternoon.

For $299 it was worth it. I've had mine since release date and so far everything I did or used on other high priced phones before have worked without a glitch. Battery life has gotten better with use and not too concerning. LOVE the hub and keyboard and overall a great phone without breaking the bank! Go BlackBerry!

I don't mind a quick charge in the afternoon...like maybe 6pm or so. A charge mid-day would not be feasible for me. I had a Z10 for a while and I had to refrain myself from using it as needed just to preserve battery life.

Had mine about 5 days and I've got no complaints about the battery life. I should mention that I'm not a power user and don't use many apps however I do browse the internet a lot on it and watch videos etc.

Overall very happy with the DTEK50 and have no regrets about buying it. One of the key factors for me was the price. I pre-ordered so got the power charger included as well but have yet to use it it's still in the box.

I also have found the battery to get better with time. The Priv for me is a better built phone but was double the price. I am using it as a second phone for when I am concerned about being out and about with my Priv. If I had never used a Priv and came direct from my Passport I could be satisfied with it since it only cost $300.

Only things I did was turn off NFC, disabled email sync and set for push where applicable and revoked any unnecessary permissions from Apps that I didn't agree with. Other than that, screen brightness to about 40% and that's it.

Great phone, great blend of BlackBerry & Android on a touch device, great price. forums will always have negative people/opinions but every phone comes with comprises and DTEK50 has some negatives (not purely designed by BB, smallish battery, ...) but there are many positives. I have the PRIV and 9 times out of ten a review will have only negative things to say. However, I find the device to be a perfect fit in my day to day.

To sum up, the phone will be great. Also, like any phone, you have 30 days to try it out.

The Classic has a smaller battery but I get much better battery life out of it. Must have something to do with the 5.2" display. Classic lasts all day and then some

You need this phone. It's very good. About the same battery life as the iPhone 6. Not heavy like the priv. The priv is great too, but it's a real back breaker. Too heavy. Speakers and sound are much better on the dtek50 as well.

Seems like it's a mixed bag between battery life and software issues. Another user saying he is having issues with the keyboard now. Where did you order from?
