Looking at getting the Dtek 50 and was asking myself if this button or any other HW button could be used together with an app or so to immediately turn on the flash light...
Like with 'light anywhere' on BB 10...

Dtek50 has a built in flashlight and yes, you can set the convenience button to toggle it. That's how I have mine set up.
But it is not like bb10..the key works only if the Phone is unlocked
Well thanks for your inputs...
Hm
Having to unlock the phone to use the light via button is a worsening in comparison to BB 10, really not android app, that can handle this...???

You can use third party app for doing this.
However you can always customise Convenience Button for that. Its one great kind of feature available in Dtek 50.
You mean third party app could turn on light directly by pressing the key WITHOUT having to unlock the device first?

According to the settings screen, if you select the shortcut, it works without having to unlock the phone.

Can you use your flashlight on BlackBerry 10 while locked?

No! When the screen is on is what it says...!!! So that would mean unlocked...I guess
If you have that device, did you try it out?

Yes! ... with the app 'light anywhere' like written all on top in the entry post...and thsi is a really cool feature, just pick you BB10 and press the assigned button and light is there!

The Convenience Key has to be the flashlight. End of the story.

Wow that's cool. You didn't specify it was an app, that's what got me confused I guess!

I found I wasn't using the convenience key very often, so set it to the flashlight and I now use it all the time. It's awesome!
You are referring to BB10, not Dtek50. I didn't find that app on the Dtek50. I have to have the screen on to use the flashlight with the convenience button. It's still a good feature.
Yes that was my concern, if the android BlackBerry devices with the use of the convenience button could perform what you can do on a BLACKBERRY OS 10 device with that app 'light anywhere'...
So it seems someone needs to build such an app for Android...
