How do you know you need to change a resistor on the motherboard?

Best you can usually find is a general tear down image that someone has labeled major components on, but I don't know if one exist for any of the newer devices.... as their just isn't much interest in them.

I remember there was lots of interest in technical diagrams on the PlayBook.... but never saw where anything like that got leaked.
