BB Store is yet again selling at rip off prices!

BB US store is $299: (and they're giving a mobile power charger for free!)
    ShopBlackBerry Online Store - DTEK50

BB CA store $429: (and they're giving a mobile power charger for free!)
    ShopBlackBerry Online Store - DTEK50

My suggestion - buy directly from Hong Kong, or wait till Kogan gets them ....

    Edit
I need to explain that the BB Store here in AU is not affiliated with Blackberry, they just sell them .....

Folks, there are different dollars around the world with different values.

Also Australian prices include 10% GST. Gross price is AUD 545, ie. USD 416.

Eh, doesn't make sense. Fact is that here in AU a number of very big overseas companies have wanted to make us pay rip off charges for decades without cause or justification. The Federal Gov't got soo peed off about this (because of the prices they were also forced to pay for software, for example) that they 'inquired' into it and determined that we in AU could quite legitimately avoid geo blocking.

With respect to BB Store pricing - my gripe is that they are an AU business who charge extraordinary prices without obvious cause or reason because they source their products in the main either directly from BB or from one of their Asian suppliers.

If all was it should be and we were charged at US dollar price, Canadians would be paying $389 and Aussies $391. But I paid $480.

Yes, I would expect that AU would pay the same price as CA. (Which is always more than the US, but we don't seem to get around that so easily, eh!)

I might also add that Optus AU is stocking the Priv, so maybe will stock the Dtek as well.

I live only 1 kilometer from the US border so it is tempting to smuggle it home, but those US border security agents are very para military looking (mirrored sunglasses and camouflage uniforms on some) that the jig would be up for me with one question. It isn't cheap living in one of the best countries in the world so I don't grumble much. Hubby would cringe with your eh as he says I pepper my speech with it lol. I can tell when those US border patrol fellows start asking me questions to determine if I am Canadian my "pardon? or eh" often shortens the grilling I get. American are big on "huh" instead of "pardon" like Canadians.

@kitmo, can't you just buy something in the US and bring it back to Canada? I suppose you're probably only allowed duty free imports to a specific annual limit?

As Aus doesn't have country borders other than the oceans we don't have quite the same problem, and (no doubt) like the Canadians, we are also allowed to bring back into AU up to $?? of goods per year in various classifications.

And we say 'eh' and 'but' here heaps.

This isn't Aus Stock. It's one of the two models announced and supplied with an adatper, with a nice markup.

Way better off ordering from Clove UK if you want one quickly. About AUD430 delivered.

We'll hear something about an Aus release in the next week or two though (according to Blackberry Australia - per an Ausdroid article last week).

Wondering how they know it's the AU spec... both models announced so far don't fully cover the Oz 4G frequencies. The Rest of the World model is missing 4G-850mhz (Voda). The US model has that but is missing 4G-700mhz (Telstra).

They've probably made a good guess that there won't be a 3rd model announced but still, a bit early to call it AU spec I think lol.

EDIT: looking at Cloves specs for the DTEK50 and Idol 4 - the UK models of these phones have different 4G bands. So there's some small hope in me that there might be an Asian/Aus 3rd model, since this means the DTEK50's radio are not just identical to the Idol 4's. Small hope lol

Actually I just checked BlackBerry's website for the DTEK50. The specs page says "Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific:

    FD-LTE 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 20, 28A (2100/1900/1800/2600/900/800/700 MHz)
    TD-LTE 38, 40, 41 (2600/2300/2500 MHz)
    HSPA+ 1, 2, 5/6, 8 (2100/1900/850/900 MHz)
    Quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)"

So the rest of the world model already includes Asia Pacific :-(

Only missing Vodas 4G-850mhz but would have been nice to have full 4G coverage like the Priv.
