I searched through a few pages related to "trackball" mishaps, and I haven't came across any directly related to mine.

    So, here's the story:
Last night I went to bed, I woke up in the morning and my trackball won't scroll. Sometimes it will scroll up, but rarely. And then it seems as if my phone becomes possessed and it's as if my trackball is just going nuts and moving around on its own. Not the ball itself, the screen. Like, when I open my messages window it will scroll up and down on its own, and when I'm at my applications menu it will scroll through all the apps on its own. I can press to select things perfectly fine. I just cannot scroll. And like I said, it happened overnight. Literally.

Now, do you think this is software related? Should I just wipe the device and reinstall my OS? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Note: I've already removed the ring and the ball casing and cleaned it thoroughly with rubbing alcohol. Still, no dice.

And Im sure you tried some battery pulls right? If not give that a try. Did something happen i.e. get water on/in it? Drop it? Sounds very odd

I agree with the above advice. Battery pulls with power on. And it does sound more like liquid/moisture damage.

Software errors usually present with problems like freezing and rebooting, not spontaneous scrolling of screens.

    I've done several pulls.
It did not get any liquid/moisture damage.
    I have not dropped it.

Like I said, I went to sleep, woke up, and the trackball no longer works. At first I thought someone was hacking me. O_O But, I knew that was silly. Any other ideas?

This happened to me, no suggestions cause I just brought the phone in and got a new one, not a refurb.

Were you under warranty? I think I may be a month over mine...

If you're under warranty, take it back. If not, this should solve your problem:
