.681 is probably the best one. Lots of people having sound issues with .822, however I haven't had a single issue in a month running it.

I just went to .681 from .822 because of problems with it. I hear .411 is very stable also, I haven't tried it though.

The best os for 8900 is hybrid willboy v. 7.2 (for me at least) memory is always above 124mb (after reebot) and 114-112Mb after all day usage, with all app that I use installed (15 app), only 1 charge /day on high use (bbm, email, social networking, browsing), browser faster, and no error I find so far. Go to hybrid section and check 'em out.

Maybe that later versions of OS5 remove the ability to put a lock/unlock icon on the home screen, that is one of my only problems with whichever version I ended up with. You have to use the function key on the top of the bb now.

I don't upgrade/ downgrade a lot but if I remember correctly, you have to uninstall the OS you have on your computer now then reinstall the one you want to load. I remember when I did my upgrade, since the OS I wanted to load was not my carrier's, I had to disconnect the internet from the pc. So just install the OS you want, disconnect the internet, then run app loader.

Be sure to delete the vendor file!

how did you get it down to the 681 version?

i down loaded the 681 program and deleted the 822 one and open the bb desk top and it didnt find it ......and i click on up date it says 5.0..0.822 version available,....and i cant figure out how to get it on.

Make sure you disconnect your pc from the internet. That way you can open app loader and manually load that os rather than have .822 detected online...

Just curious about everyone reporting problems with 822 -- I simply haven't seen them since 1) my first install was a bit flakey, and 2) I wiped my 8900 and reinstalled 822 on a "bare" phone. Since then is has really been, without question, the smoothest running OS (out of about 20) I've had on the 8900. Sound has been good, no problem with ringers, battery life and memory good. Very responsive UI - no lag.

Only thing I'm thinking about that might make my experience different from others -- I've had BerryBuzz installed (since before 822) -- not sure if that somehow *helps* the situation where others lose ringtones or audio?

Anyway - 822 has been great for me. I don't expect any more upgrades to lead for the 8900, as it's already considered "old" in cell-phone-years (getting close to 2 years old!!!), so I suspect 822 may be the last OS that I use on this device before "project emerald" finally surfaces at T-Mobile, and I make my final decision about staying with Blackberry or giving Android a try... As long as I'm on an 8900, though, I won't be dropping back to anything prior to 822.

For those who had trouble: did you try a wipe / install? (sorry if you already answered this earlier on the thread and I missed it).

I am running 5.0.0.822 with willyboy hybrid 7.3 and works amazingly well.
Been running for 72 hours, battery life appears to be good so far.

it seems weird some guys have problems with 822.

I flashed 822 3 weeks ago, and it has been working very well those days, so I feel it is a better os than old ones.

I had the no ringtones issue with .822, and the TMO website has an official memo that the battery needs to be pulled once the OS is loaded for a proper reset. Once I did that, the ringtones came back, and everything was fine.
