what are the benefits of an unlocked bb??

besides being able to use the unlocked bb with other carriers, are there any other benefits?
i have an unlocked curve and bold - i dont see any difference between a locked and unlocked - just that i can use the unlocked one with other carriers ..
am i missing something?

You're not missing anything. What you've experienced are the only benefits.
