Has anyone with a curve 8330 gone thru the Verizon switch from Alltel, and done a *228, opt 1? I did the *228 opt 2 just to change my PRL but was nervous about the opt 1, which apparently is a fone re-program or vzw fone software setup or something like that...sounds buggy to me? My curve still works great, no prblms, and hate to do the opt 2 unless proven to be necessary and otherwise non-prblmatic!!! TIA

I do *228 all the time. The way it was explained to me was that it updates roaming capabilities and of course software stuff from time to time. I leave my "home" area all of the time and was told this was necessary because of tower switching and what not.

Who knows if I was told the truth or not but like I said I do this all of the time and there is nothing wrong with my phone.

There is no harm in doing the *228 option 2 programming. As stated above, all it does is ensure you have the latest PRL (Preferred Roaming List) to use the latest tower information for best coverage.

Verizon recommends you do a *228, option 2 every 30-60 days as some towers are being taken out of service, or switched into service, especially with the Verizon/Alltel merger.

Thanks for the responses so far, but you're not reading the question right. I've done the opt 2, which is the prl update, no prblm. Has anyone done the opt 1, which is the handset programming update? How did it go?

If you are running fine with no issues, there really is no reason to do *228, option 1.

    * 228 Option '1' is to activate the device onto the network...if your device is making and receiving calls, sending and receiving data, then there is no reason to perform the *228 Option '1' function.

As was stated above however, running * 228 Option '2' is a good thing to do every 30 to 60 days, or more often if you travel to different areas frequently.

*228 option 2 updates towers as said earlier. I do it once a month a friend that works in the field says verison is picking up new towers all the time.
