You can do anything the device is designed to do and anything your data plan and carrier let you.

I have an unlocked 8310 and you would never know it. Unless you try to use it in China that is.

Unlocking simply means it can be used with other GSM carriers. I have a Rogers phone and it was locked to Rogers. No chance to use it with any other company.

But now that it is unlocked, I can use it with any GSM carrier in the world.

Unlocking does not affect data plans or anything like that.

Yeah, having an unlocked device does not mean that you can get data for free.

Right, if this was an 8320/8330 you could still use the internet through Wi-Fi, but being an 8310 you absolutely need a data plan to get anything data related.

8320 is the only one with wifi not the 8310 or 8330

i personally dont want the data plan because i dont see the need for internet on a phone. so i bought it on ebay so i didnt have to go through at&t contract.

i was reading on the blackberry site that it had wireless email but i could be wrong.

Yes, the device has the capability of getting wireless email. BUT you have to pay for a data plan (specifically a BLACKBERRY data plan) in order to get it.
