I have my 8350i boostberried with Nextel since I have their unlimited data package. Everything works fine except for text messaging when I go to Canada, It does not allow me to compose anything. I receive a notification that tells me i have received a text message, but it tells me that the message cannot be retrieved. I tried the retrieve now option to no avail. I travel to Canada on a weekly basis and have looked everywhere for a solution. Thanks for your help in advance!

you have to get a telus sim card..... there was someone way back in the day that lived in canada and worked in the us. the only way he could get his BB to work in both places was to have both a nextel and telus account.

Your going to find the problem is with Boost since it does not officially support the 8350i iDEN phone. However if you have NEXTEL service plan then you will have no problem getting and sending text messages as Telus/MiKE and NEXTEL have a partner ship that allow DC to be used in both Countries. I have no problem sending/receiving texts when in the US with my MiKE phone.

I traveled to Vancouver Canada once with nextel Blackberry 8350i.
When i chatted with international service 'specialist' they told me that texting is free of charge to US bound numbers. Data service was at 'free-trial' so all I did was international direct connect with enabler activated to my account.

When i arrived canada, text service was just unavailable.
I complained to nextel representative for false information via webchat, but what they said was that if it works it works, if not, there's nothing they can do about it. (according to them, there's some places in canada that nextel phone can text).

If you are planning to use international direct connect, make sure the other parties who receive your direct-connect call also has international DC plan. Otherwise, you won't be charged, but they will be charged extra for receiving 'international' DC.

So, in conclusion, you cannot text in Canada using Nextel service. You, however, can use data for free until the promotion lasts.

I went to Florida last summer and had no problem sending and receiving sms, also BB messenger was all good.I think its got to do with the fact that Nextel doesn't use sms only mms and Telus only has sms and not mms....just a thought...
