    The price for buying the device without a contract isn't a ripoff. However, the on-contract price is. T-Mobile has the audacity though to charge $20 less for a Curve 8320 with a trackpad than the 8900 on-contract. I'd think of picking one up off-contract in BBs didn't suck so much as backup devices.
