Strange Wi-Fi Issue...
Hey guys,
I had a question. A rather odd one at that...Or maybe I am just going crazy lol. Whenever I select Wi-Fi to turn it on my 8900(4.6.1.250) it will grey the box out and act like it is going to start to connect then just un check the box almost instantly. It just acts like I selected then unselected it. It will let me select it and put the check mark on it SOMETIMES, but most of the time I check Wi-Fi and it un checks it almost instantly. Is this a issue with 250 or a phone issue itself? I absolutely hate to do a OS reinstall and I have a feeling that is what will be suggested, but I thought I would see if anyone else has/had experienced this same issue. Any help guys?
Thanks a lot as usual,
Blaine

I had a similar problem with my old 8900. Unfortunately it was as a result of a number of other problems and I had to get a new one.

Power cycle your router.
What mfg is it?
Also there a million 8900 wifi guides here, have you read any by searching?

Well guys..I've tried all above mentioned. Router is a Motorola btw. I think my phone has serious issues, and I don't know where to begin. The wifi sometimes will work, sometimes it goes on and off for a second. Then then the trackball intermittently works. I bought a Seidio Innocase II a bit back and thats when all this started. My phone is possesed/physco though. At this very moment without the case on, the trackball WILL not work. I did figure out that when I take the case off of the phone, then I can turn the wifi on and connect. I have no idea what to do..Trackball working intermittently, wifi is borked. Phone has never been wet and dropped maybe twice. I think this is possibly a hardware issue. I have been contemplating getting a new trackball(I have taken mine apart and cleaned it) but I am not sure what to do. Anyone have any ideas? I think the phones just flat croaking to be honest, and since it has been apart my chances of warranty are slim to none...UGH
Thanks,
Blaine

try setting your connection preferences as wifi and not just mobile network. that will default it to wifi data when connected to a wifi network. maybe its defaulting back to your mobile data use if it isnt set to "wifi preferred". if its set to "mobile network only" it will cause your phone to not connect to wifi data. try that. i leave mine on wifi preferred and leave wifi on at all times. the minute i walk into my house or go anywhere i have a wifi network profile saved, it automatically picks it up and routes all data through the wireless network instead of EDGE.

Its not even really that though. Wi-Fi goes on and then right back off..would that really have anything to do with connection prefs?
Thanks,

I've experienced this issue many times right after installing certain versions of particular applications. It may be worthwhile to uninstall any relatively new apps and see if that does the trick.

When you power cycled the router did you power cycle the modem too?

The mobile network setting has no effect on the wifi radio, it only tells the phone weather to use cellular transmission or wifi to transmit and receive. if the wifi radio is turning off on its own then its OS software issue or hardware issue. The wifi radio should remain powered on even if there is a problem with the AP(router).
If it was me I would try a clean OS install without restoring a backup and test, if all works then restore data and 3rd party app's.
I'm not sure but the wifi radio may disable itself if the battery level gets to low.
