The smileys only are in the symbols listed in BB Messenger for use with that application. In any other text boxes such as mail or sms you won't have the smileys.

I have a program called Berricons that gives you a ton of selections for smileys, but they only show up as text, unfortunately. Berricons ends up as a selection in your menu in all your text applications. I have really liked having it, but would love to find one that would do them in color!
