Hi - I have a curve 8330 using VZW running 4.5.0.77 and using Desktop Manager 4.7.

I understand they took a long time to do so, but i saw that VZW "blessed" 4.5.0.138 (r205) and Desktop Manager 5.0 recently, you can get both from their website.

I'm not a power user, and have no complaints, so I'm wondering if I should upgrade. I guess I'm wondering if there are any 'hidden' reasons (improves interaction with carrier on data exchange, updates phone internals to my non-obvious benefit, etc.).

4.5.0.77 came with the phone, so this is my first released update, and I'm wondering if this is like XP upgrade (harmless and benign) or WIN98 updates (only update when you need to).

    Thanks in advance!
    /j

    I wouldn't recommend .138.

If you aren't experiencing any problems with speakerblast when answering calls, stay with .77 or upgrade to .131 or .169.

DM 5 is nice, the backups are completed super fast.

However, it does make upgrading to non-Verizon OSes harder.

I definitely don't recommend using DM 4.7, especially for doing an OS upgrade. It is too buggy.

So, if you are going to upgarde your OS, upgrade/downgrade your DM to 4.6 or 5.0, then upgrade your OS to .131 or .169.

    No problem. Enjoy DM 5.0

Only thing is DM automatically checks for upgrades, so it will constantly offer you the .138 upgrade everytime you open DM.

yeah, that's why I thought maybe I should be upgrading, but the upgrades it recommends are (I assume) the ones VZW blessed - .138 r205

Yes, DM will only offer carrier specific OSes to you, .138 in your case.
