    hey all,

this is my first post and let me say this site is great...

I have an 8330 curve and I'm a bit confused with the os upgrades and stuff. My phone says it is running v4.5.0.77 (platform 3.2.0.51). Using the desktop manager I get platform version 3.2.0.51 and application version 4.5.0.77.

Now I know a bit about software and stuff and I've read the sticky for the latest os for my phone, v4.5.0.160, but it appears to have a lower application version, 4.5.0.160, versus my .77. and the platform version is higher at 3.4.0.41 versus my 3.2.0.51...

I don't know exactly what the application and platform numbers mean but it would seem that I would be downgrading my application version and upgrading the platform version... I guess I'm a bit worried about messing things up and hope you guys can explain to me if this is correct and if I should be looking for another os version or something...

When I run the desktop manager update while my bb is connected it tells me that there are no updates to apply... I did read the article about how to upgrade my os, so I'm good on how to do it... just not sure if I should.

    Any info is appreciated...

    Thanxs,
    Corey

    4.5.0.160 is higher than 4.5.0.77...

Dont even worry about the platform numbers, if you want to upgrade, if you follow the instructions you will be ok..

I just upgraded to the new hybrid and I have to say it's AWESOME. I used .160 with the hybrid files and it has been working flawless!

You're on Verizon, stay away from 4.5.0.160

    Use Sprint's 4.5.0.131 instead.

Biggest issue is a chirping sound in the earpiece while in-call. That and profiles crashes, where you lose your profiles that you worked so hard to set-up.

    well...

    update done!!!

all went well I think although it did lock up when I did a soft pull using quick pull... but an actual battery pull worked fine and everything seems to be working.

the new version is now 4.5.0.160. I still dont understand how the lower number is an upgrade... but I'll take the advice of you guys and gals and trust that it is.

    Thanx,
    Corey

How is 160 lower than 77?

Unless you are thinking in terms of a decimal number, where .77 is higher than .160. But that isn't how you should be interpreting the OS versions.

I've allways thought as software updates being related to a higher number then a previous version. I know most computer drivers are related this way.

Are the updates for BB's not released this way?

how do you know if an os is an update/upgrade then?

    I don't know, you've lost me.

How you are interpreting 4.5.0.77 as being higher than 4.5.0.160 is beyond me...

The last number is 77 and 160, not 16. All previous numbers (4.5.0) are the same.

Think of it as a build - build 77 is an earlier build than 160. This is true of any software release, not just BB. Why would you think otherwise?

The numbers in the upgrades are numerically sequential, not sub-sub variations. .77, .81,.131, .160, etc.

like good boy i too am new at this getter better by the day.

I am still running the .77 the the phone came with i have verizon should i upgrade?and if so to what? what are the differences when you upgrade i feel like this phone does very well, will it go faster? will it use flash?(I know NO) dying for it to be able to.

I was also wondering if anyone had any suggestions about what the best service is for remote accessing my computer at home so i could stream xm online to the phone or my giants games because i can hook my computer to the tv(it also has a tuner so I don't need to use a converter box). I was reading about Orb?

I am using moodio to get wfan right now which is great hopefully they stream the giants games. I dont know if anyone noticed but it sounds almost as if moodio dials into the radio station and your listening on hold because when you select your stations you here a few rings then blam sound.

if as you say there are hybrids and i use the sprint one will i be able to access nfl live? It let me download the app but wouldn't let me access because i have verizon.

sorry off topic thanks in advance to any advice!!

Of course it is! go big blue. The hardest thing this year was saying no to a chance for season tickets after being on the waitlist for years.

But $400 a seat plus $7500 psl a seat so for year one 23000$ and then $8000 a year after that for 2 seats. Hey love big blue but that kind of cash is just insane my hd ans suround works great when not at work!

If you use a hybrid to update your OS you will gain many benefits. But you will NOT be able to use Sprints NFL Live because you are not a Sprint customer, right? Your profile says Verizon. Just like me...no dice on the NFL Live.

The OS you choose, whether a hybrid (created by the fine folks here on Crackberry.com) or Sprint's .131 all have their benefits and drawbacks. Generally, the .131 is the most stable for Verizon ppl. STAY AWAY from .160. I had it for two days before I developed the squelching during calls and the RF cycling. Annoying!!!!!!!

    Go with the hybrid 160/130.

    Hasn't been an issue yet.
