So i've had my blackberry 8900 for a year now & it's very convenient for me to just press the clicking letters of a contact name and have it narrow down my contacts to the person i want. That way, i don't have to click on the contacts icon and start finding a name.
I just took out the battery of my phone & put it in a couple minutes later because of some other issues, & now i can no longer do that anymore! I press buttons when i'm on the home screen and nothing happens; there isn't the convenient shortcut to finding/narrowing down a contact anymore.
Help! I don't know whether it's a setting..or if that feature is broken somehow? Help please!
I have no idea. Maybe reload your SIM phonebook unto the BlackBerry phonebook? Is that a stupid suggestion? Probably .. In which case disregard it. It is nearly 4:30am so I can't think too straight right now.
Hm, i'm not sure that will work. I think some of my contacts may be erased if i do that.
I've also found out that when i'm on my homescreen (like just looking at my wallpaper), i can't simply hold down the Q key to have my phone on vibrate. I'd have to have it on another screen like the messages screen or the call log screen for it to work. Nonetheless, none of my speed dialing works either when i'm on the homescreen.
What prompted you to pull the battery in the first place? Maybe that has something to do with this. Maybe try to pull it again? Or the theme idea was a good one to, if you're using a custom theme try to reset it to the default theme, might work.
@ bigbaldbloke: Yeah, the speed dial numbers like the Q shortcut for vibrate, the W shortcut for voicemeail & the A shortcut for lock is still there. It's just it doesn't work when i'm on the homescreen; only when i'm on a screen like the message screen.
I just tried changing the theme & that didn't work either ):
@ graham5333: I pulled out the battery because there were files i deleted from my media that were still on my phone, but completely blank. & when i pulled out the battery and reinserted it, my media files were fine. But then this problem occured.
No, superficially it should do no more than return the icons to their original places in the menus & revert to default icons, i.e. it'll put your theme back to how it was when you first downloaded it. I'm doubtful that it will sort your problem, but I aint got many straws left to clutch at!
Your problem sounds, for all the world, like the unticked Dial From Home Screen option mentioned first (may be worth turning that off, then on again). But if that's not the case, I'm thinking a corrupt Home Screen setting.
