Some info:
1) Tried quitting all extraneous open applications
2) Tried battery pull
3) Have about 27 megabytes of space left - maybe that is the problem?
4) OS 4.3.0.127
5) Startup from battery pull takes 5 minutes
6) Evening dialing a phone number...I get the little hourglass and have to wait about 20-45 seconds between numbers.

What would you geniuses out there recommend for me to help this thing go faster?

Update your OS to 4.5 get rid of any apps you don't need or use. Delete sample media, make sure you are clearing logs and browser cache, etc. Make sure you are fully closing out of apps, however certain ones will need to reain running ie vib and ring and bbalerts. If u have any I'm clients those will remain running as well. Reboot should not take more than 2 mins.

I remember rebooting my phone when I first got it took sooo long!! But it's like a little computer so it needs to get all it's stuff ready!

And there will always be five apps running.
(to close apps do menu - close/exit
Browser, Messages, BBM, Phone, Home Screen.
You can take a look to see which are running.
By going to your home screen - menu - switch application.
or Alt + escape/return/back key
