OS upgrade isn't working
Im trying to upgrade my curve 8320 OS
From
Package Version: 4.5.0.42
Applications: 4.5.0.42 (58)
Software Platform: 2.7.0.60
To
Package Version: 4.5.0.254
Applications: 4.5.0.161
Software Platform: 2.7.0.105
I've followed these instructions:
1. Download and install to PC the latest version of Desktop Manager from here: ( BlackBerry Operating System Downloads )
2. Download the new OS you want and install it to the PC
3. Open Desktop Manager and do a complete backup of your current device.
4. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
5. Plug in BB and open Desktop Manager
6. Select Application Loader
7. You will be prompted to upgrade
Everything up to step 6 works fine but it doesn't promt me to upgrade, nor do i have the option to under "Update Software" it just says that there are no avaiable software updates.
Any clues on what I am doing wrong? Im new to most of this, i got my blackberry a few months ago but haven't bothered messing with applications and software till now. My carrier is AT&T if that helps at all
Thanks in advance,
-Pete

Try launching application loader from windows rather than desktop manager.
Program files -> common files -> Research in Motion -> apploader. Double click the icon in there.
If that still doesn't work it's something to do with the auto-update of desktop manager, which can be turned off via add/remove programs using the "modify" option. I think I briefly mentioned how to turn that off in the latest 8310 OS thread.

(with your BB plugged into the USB port)
Go into the folder where the OS is installed and double the loader file there, it should detect the phone and load up the new OS.
oops CFRP beat me.

Also, go to Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs and make sure that you only have one OS installed on your conputer. If there is more than one, uninstall the older one.

Uninstall Desktop Manager and install version 4.5. The newest version checks your vendor ID inside the phone and looks for upgrades on the internet. It creates a new, hidden vendor.xml so it won't use what you downloaded. 4.5 doesn't do that and is better for upgrading.

Isn't .161 for the 8310, not the 8320?

Im having the exact same issue. Ive used DM 4.5, 4.6, 4.7 and 5.0 and all the update ever says is no software updates available. I even wiped my OS with JL_CMDER and even that didnt help. The only thing I can get to load on my phone is the Sprint stock OS, .131

That is exactly what will happen if the security file Vendor.xml is still present on your computer.
Deleting the file is covered in step 4, but, it is possible there are additional copies installed.
Use Advanced Search, include program and hidden files to find and delete any additional copies of Vendor.xml.
