What is the newest OS for the Blackberry 8900, which is official and wont cause problems on my phone, also what does changing the OS do for the phone?

if you go from 4.6 to 5.0, you will see a huge difference

up to .681 for 2 days already, few points noted:
1. Trackball is smooth scrolling, definitely is "snappier" than previous
2. Browser is faster
3. Threaded SMS
4. Battery is a little bit longer than previous (not significant)
5. Mute button hasn't (still?) put the phone into Standby mode, it only "mutes" the ringtone
6. Lock-key button also turn off the display

Overall, great version, works quite stable until now.
Worth a try!

if Orange did not release an upgrade, you can still download from another carrier's release as long as you delete a file called vendor located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

If you have an issue and have to send it in, they'll probably wipe out your OS and install the official OS for your carrier anyway if they think it is software related.

Well, took the plunge and installed .681.. Worked fine for me

im part way through the upgrade, absolutly pooing myself hahahhaaha


Finished the install! just updating the MSN, Facebook and BBM so there usable with the download, will let you all know if i have any problems with the OS for sure

i absolutly love the upgrade!
i have found my browser has been a TINY bit slower, not a big difference though
my battery is quite high ...usally its quite low by this time of night
i like how messages are like bbm aswell all in one convo

That's great sho81 !! . . though I feel that the browser is faster compared to the 4.6.1.xxx

to be honest after a couple of days using the new OS i havent noticed a massive change in the browser but maybe it is a tiny bit quicker.
also, remember my BBM problem? that hasnt happened since i changed OS *touch wood it wont again* so pretty happy about that too

I would not consider the browser speed to be '' massively '' quicker, but it is quick. And regarding the BBM issue, I hope it won't ever come back
