First! If you have outlook on that laptop put em in there then use the BlackBerry Desktop Mananger and sync... presto!

you could also import contacts via a gmail account if you have one, or get one and then do a google sync with their free program that syncs contacts as well as calendar.

Wondering if that Windows Live Mail would be the same... It took the place of Outlook Express or does it have to be plain Outlook from Office

There's no sync option for windows mail.

i personally went the route of entering in all my contact information on my gmail account, and then using google sync to send them to the phone.....and whenever you add a new contact directly on your phone, you just use google sync, and you've backed up that new contact......not to mention google sync can also sync your gmail calendar to your berry calendar
