Hi folks, I found out last week that I am getting stationed to Grafenwoehr in Germany. So, my concern is having a cell phone plan. I would really hate to part with my 8350i, but if it has to be done, then there's nothing I can really do, right?

Does anyone have any experience with data plans in Europe? Will I be able to text US phone numbers while I'm there without extra charges beyond my regular data plan? What about other Blackberry features like Blackberry Chat? Will that still be useable?

Any information will be great. Sprint/Nextel has been pretty vague regarding the issue. Thanks!

It appears your 8350i is only supportable on the iDEN network, which does not exist in europe. The phone will not work in Germany.

If you are posted to Germany for a long period my advice is to consider sourcing a new phone when you arrive, and run it on a German SIM with local pricing. Local calls and calls back to US are likely to be cheaper than running a US account with roaming.
