    Guys/Gals,

I just got my sunset red 8320 today and I LOVE it! I don't feel so bad sending those 8900s back after all! Nice to see it shipped with v4.5.0.81 too which has some nice upgrades (my old 8320 had v4.2.something).

Anyway, can anyone tell me how much memory my device has (excluding card)? I've only downloaded Beyond411 so far but would like to add some themes and maybe a few more apps.

I just checked and it appears that 'file free' shows 15192724 bytes. Is this OK?

    Thanks!

Where you check it will tell you what is total memory - it ships with 64mb

To check you can hit options>status or alt - shift - H

15mb is decent but it can be improved.... See the link in my sig for memory optimization - anything over 12 is sufficient, though I run my 8310 @ 30 ish

OK, when I hit alt-shift-H I can see that 'File Total' is 55MB and 'File Free' is 15MB. I just got the phone today, so how I can I only have 15MB free?

    Thanks!

Tremortality, I clicked your link but a lot has to do with OS upgrades. Am I missing something?

Thanks....I know, I did click on this one. Just looks like the beginning is all about OS upgrading.

I will have to keep working on that, the first part is the Simple instructions for settings on the device and removing the samples.

Once you have completed those steps, you will have substantially more memory to work with.

The Better technique will let you gain full control over the memory, and is exactly the same process as an OS upgrade.

OK thanks Reed. Looks a bit intimidating! LOL! I'm nervous to mess things up. Never done much 'work' on a BB before.

I have the exact same phone with the exact same issue. I've had it for 3 days and have downloaded nothing on it.

Seems to me that maybe the T-Mobile 8320's come this way? (Although, being TOTALLY new to BB I could be completely wrong)

This is my second one in the past week or so (because I traded in the first for this very reason). This 2nd new one is no different.

Are you saying that you got an 8320 and thought it had low memory so you sent it back for a replacement?

    That's exactly what I'm saying.
I thought maybe there was something wrong with the phone since everyone seems to have crazy large amounts of memory here. I hadn't loaded anything on mine & it was running at 17K or less.

I brought it back & exchanged it for another. This new one is no different. Always running at 17k or less with no apps installed.

I am in love with this phone though, so I'll probably just deal with it.

I think this is how it comes. Weird though, I agree.

I had the same situation as you with very low file free out of the box. I parred down my BB following Reed's guide and with CrackMem:http://forums.crackberry.com/f35/cra...eleased-52044/, and got up into the mid 20MB range before adding the 3rd aprty apps I use.

GSM (tmobile, AT&T) curves come with 64mb.. other curves CDMA (sprint, alltell, verizon) come with 96mb..

You can go to the options, advanced section, delete the sample vid, thats a couple MB there, when I had my 8320, I also deleted tasks, memo pad, help, brickbreaker (I didnt need or use them) those things can be deleted from the device, easy. Things like VAD, carrier theme etc in the link postd above can be removed by crackmem.

I then was running about 27mb on a fresh reboot.

Wow, there really is a big difference between GSM and CDMA.

I just tried to find the sample video to delete and my device doesn't have it. Is it possible it was never put on mine? Just got my 8320 yesterday.

    Thanks!

If its not in your application list, then it doesnt have it. Im not sure if its part of that OS, I know it was on the 4.2

Also, try to limit how many themes you use, when I had my 8320, I would only install one third party, but use my memory card to store wallpapers to change the background when needed.

OK thanks Rachel. I've also only installed one third-party theme. Oh, by the way, what is the largest memory card I can use with this phone? 4GB?

    Go for it.

    Edit

For the 16 GB card, not Apps on the card as Rachel says below.

Can someone explain Maxmem and Crackmem....in simple terms please! Just trying to decide if I should run one to clear up more memory. Are these programs that are run once to do the job, or routinely?

I advise crackmem, because you can always put back stuff with ease.

Crackmem is a once thing, unless you again upgrade to a newer OS.
