I dunno, this was fairly predictable though. Tmobile needed a 3g curve considering every other device has a 3g variant (even the Pearl).

Also the 8520 didn't have NEARLY the same amount of hardware failures that the 9630 did, and had wifi, and had a trackpad... The main reason the 9650 (and the name change) had to come to existence was a ton of device returns/CS costs.

The phone in the picture look exactly like the 8500 series. Except for the housing, maybe. I don't know if it has different specs, or anything like that.

Will 8520 users be able to replace their phones? I don't think 9630 users were... So, all in all, RIM did the same to us that it did to Tour'ers.

Guess history is really cyclical after all. And I usually support RIM one most what happens. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Not sure it's a smart move as a company to keep doing this.

I never had issues with signal on my 9630. I have more issues with my 8530 than my Tour. I just think that phones are going to get upgraded. Its apart of the electronics world.

^^ That doesn't explain why the entire Tour name was axed and the 9630 was fully removed from sales at least 1.5 years too early though (with the exception of VZ because they didn't release the 9650 yet, but expect it to happen for them also).

It's that blind loyalty, that unwillingness to look at anything not blackberry is the reason that they can recycle the same phones and slap a new model number on it, and release it to the public. There are people in here right now jumping at the chance to order the new VZW "bold" tonight at midnight. Why? When we all know that it's barely a step up from the 9630 Tour. I suspect that you all will also be jumping at the chance to throw your money at RIM for this beauty also.

Unless they change to a better processor, I see no point on going 8530 > 9330... besides aesthetics at least. The 8530 is pretty much complete as I see it. Sure, could use flash...

My point is. This is not exactly wise...

9000 > 9700: New format, trackpad, double the memory (128 > 256), better battery life, better OS performance. If you had the 9000 you'd proabbly want the 9700. Makes sense to EOL the 9000 at some point.

9630 > 9650: Trackpad, wi-fi, double the memory (256 > 512), can expect better OS performance, OS 6 able. If you had the 9630 you'd probably be dying for this one, but if you can't update you'd be at least annoyed the 9630 didn't get wi-fi to begin with (we know this is true). 9630 is EOL.

Now...

8520 > 9300: Aesthetcs... 3G... nothing else. Since this is the new installment... And there is no point building two devices that are basically the same... EOL for the 8520 in the horizon. How long since it was launched? Around 1.5 year? Deja vu anyone?

I'll stick to BlackBerry for as long as it suits my needs. I am not into media/games and I type more than I do anything else on it so touchscreen and sweepy screens do me no good (they are still cool, I don't hate them, would not mind a Storm 2 as toy).

Nobody forced me to buy this, but I made sure I bought the most recent device available then so I didn't have to worry about replacing it for a while... Still love it, but I kinda feel cheated.

I hope you intended to say that both 8520 and 8530 should have had the very same features. I really do.

I can see the upgrade for 8520 users, because of the 3g, but they should make this more compelling for all 8520 and 8530 users by adding memory, flash maybe, and whatever it needs to be able to run os 6.

It's not as necessary as you think because what you want out of the 9330 and what they are trying to target are two different things. This is a low end device. Cost is the bottom line, so having a cheaper phone even if it doesn't run OS6 still makes sense.

They might still upgrade other things, but even if they don't, 3g + low cost 8520+3g for GSM is the target. In other words they are not really targeting 8520 upgraders.

For the 8530 users I don't think this is even relevant. This is for GSM to put them on par with some of the current CDMA low-end offerings.
