insanity - old emails suddenly appear as if they were just sent

this is happening to one person in our company.
we have exchange 2003, do not have BES, so using OWA to access email on the blackberry. he has the curve 8330.

it has happend about 3 times in the last few months, an email shows up in his inbox, but JUST the inbox on the blackberry, not in outlook on his PC.

the crazy thing is that this is an email that is several months old, one was even 2 years old!

the 2 year old one was from someone no longer with the company.
it was originally sent 2 years ago, yet appears in the inbox on his blackberry, shows up today, as if it was just sent!

I check the smtp logs on my exchange server and I do not see this email being sent, I dont see it in my spam software log either.

what in the world coud cause this?

also, is there a way to check the email headers from the blackberry?
in outlook you can look at the hearders of the email and see the specifics of when it was sent and so forth, can we do that on the blackberry?
