I was told this morning that the phone was on backorder and I asked if I was able to cancel the order and I was told I wasn't until 20minutes later, t-mobile gave me a call and asked if I wanted to get my refund or just wait until the phone came in stock... But luckly they found a store 25miles away from my house so I was able to cancel my order and I now have the phone... They only had 2 left and I got one out of the 2

Back orders, what a sham. I am afraid that RIM is pumping out their next batch at top speeds just to make sure they have them out so people could buy them because they know the first batches sold like crazy. That perhaps explains why the 3 8900's out of the production date 060209 I had to exchange.
This whole situation sounds like the G1 release. People who pre-ordered were getting their phones AFTER people who ordered on the day it was released. It was crazy and a big mess! Hopefully, this won't happen with the 8900 release and all of the people waiting will get it soon.
Ordered mine on Saturday, called in just now and was told "pending shipment." CC rep said that it may or may not have shipped out (although unlikely) and UPS haven't given them a tracking number (UPS pick it up, then give T-Mo a tracking number). Considering UPS suck with tracking numbers I'm hoping I'll get mine soon.
That's not too uncommon to see that, T-Mobile will just tell you that upgrade and new acct stock are in seperate warehouses. Of course who really knows, doesn't surprise me because the industry focuses more on customer acquisition than customer retention.
You know what it probobly is, all the people who got theirs, had issues with the phone, sent it back and are now on their 4th 8900 like me, uge issues with the first batch here at Rogers

my phone order was placed with a status of back order....i called customer care...who i immediately told to transfer to customer loyalty...who looked up the phone and the order and saw the phone was not backordered but the order showed it was. he just e-mailed the manager at the warehouse to send out the phone or see whats wrong...we'll see what happens
wow there is so much goin on here its not even funny. i dont even kno what to go by anymore. some people cant cxl orders, while some can. some pplz gettin orders while others havent. i guess if i didnt get it for $179. id cancelled & ordered again later. but luckily 8320 is holding me tight. thank god. but if i get that new bill & no phone its goin to be trouble. lol
i dont think they bill you until you actually receive the phone form UPS, is what I was told. The moment tracking shows shipped...you get billed....HOW COME I CAN'T GET $179
Just be patient and the phone will be shipped out as soon as possible. But since not everyone isn't patient about it, keep calling t-mobile until they can do better for you such as giving you reimberrsement onto your bill or give you some kind of discount. I have discounted international calling, and they are giving me the amount used credited it back to my account. so keep calling because they know that we aren't happy. And I totally agree that they need to put the phone as temporially out of stock on the website because it will cause more problem and the company will lose more money.

or they wont lose money...as they can credit us existing customers $20 here and there....but they make it all back from every new customer ordering the phone.....i don't see them taking it off their site

Umm no not really. firstly, there were no pre-orders for this device. Second, I ordered mine only a couple hours after it was released and I still received it on the 12th.

I do think you got lucky...but there is some communication errors, which won't be solved until T-Mobile reps stop acting like they know everything for sure....and at the same time they all say something different...even a manager wouldn't let me cancel my back ordered phone order
