Takes some time to adjust to but I like it better than the trackball. The device itself...now that's a different story. I'd gladly give up my 8520 for an 8900.

The trackpad is a big improvement over the trackball. It does take some time to get used to it, but it is better. Ive had it for less than a week and I dont think I could go back to a trackball device.

I agree. I've had it for about a day and like the previous answer it does take sometime to get used to but it is a nice improvement.

I tested one out at my local Tmobile store.

2 thumbs down on the trackpad. I thought it would be a revolution in BB navigation. Not only is it difficult to use, it requires me now to move my thumb a lot more and a lot more carefully. Loss of sensation was very disorienting and slowed down anything I tried to do. Not to mention Brickbreaker was impossible to play.

I'd probably have to get used to it in order to like it, but I don't think it's anywhere as efficient or accurate as a trackball. There's a reason people like mice over touchpads...

I really like the new trackpad. I was skeptical at first since I was so used to a trackball from the 8320 and 8830, but after about a day I was already a huge fan. I think the biggest thing was just finding the right sensitivity setting for it.

i love the trackpad. at first i was a little concerned and didnt think it was the smartest idea but i actually like it a lot better than the trackball. just give it time and you will soon to fall in love. its the same idea but its nice plus you dont have to worry about your trackball eventually turning black. lol

I like the trackpad as well. Like another poster mentioned you can change the sensitivity to make it the best possible navigation for you just like with the trackball. Not worrying about it getting dirty is a plus as well.

Cant wait to try out this trackpad. Does this mean no more tracksballs for future BBs?

Very unlikely. Trackballs are vastly more reliable and provide more accuracy. In fact, if the trackpad isn't popular on the 8520, we may never see it again.

I can maybe agree with the accuracy, but more reliable? The more moving parts, the less reliable any object becomes in regards to it's chance of failure. It's coming to the 9700, too.

I had a chance to use the trackpad on the 8520 and it's made a believer out of me.IMO the trackpad works so well it almost negates the need for having a touchscreen BB.Just wait until RIM mates the trackpad with higher-end devices like the 9700 series.

I do believe all new devices will be TP only...or atleast i would hope so.

Trackpads are going to be the wave of the future, moveable parts are much more prone to breaking than static ones (see trackballs + Storm).

It took me like 2 seconds to figure out how to use the trackpad. I'd take it over a trackball anyday. It doesn't seem like it will fail as fast as the trackball does.
