i pressed the symbol and its on $ key and phone just goes silent,i want to be able to use my phone on speaker yikes im too old for this can anyone please help me?im getting desperate.lol love Ann.xx

When you're on the phone with someone, press the menu button and say "activate speakerphone"

May want to check that the volume isn't turned down too low. (While in speaker mode, hit the UP button on the right edge of the phone)

That is the correct key to press, but you have to be on the call already. Also note that the speaker is on the back of the phone so that could make a little difference, and as was mentioned below, make sure the volume is turned up by pressing the top key on the right side of the phone.
