    ok guys well i wanna back up my curve 8310 and it goes about half way and then it says the data was not recognized by device
    what do i do to fix this problem

    I have heard that this can be caused by a loose or faulty cable. If you have another, like from a camera, try it.

    Overview
    When you use the Advanced Backup and Restore option in the BlackBerry� Desktop Manager to manage a database on the BlackBerry smartphone, such as Address Book, Calendar, MemoPad, or Tasks applications, you receive the following error message:

    The data was not recognized by the device

    When you click OK in the dialog box, you have the choice to either end the process, or back up data and continue.

    Note: You cannot restore data backed up from a BlackBerry smartphone that uses BlackBerry� Device Software 4.0 to a BlackBerry smartphone that uses BlackBerry Device Software version 4.1 or later.

    If you are using BlackBerry Desktop Software version 4.1 or later, you receive the following error when you restore the data on a BlackBerry smartphone from a backup file:

    Cannot backup or restore the following database: Address Book. The data was not recognized by the device.

    This issue may be caused by one of the following:

    The backup file was made from a BlackBerry smartphone with a version of BlackBerry Device Software earlier than 4.1.
    Your data in Microsoft� Outlook� may be incomplete.

    Resolution
    Cause 1

    The backup file was made from a BlackBerry smartphone with a version of BlackBerry Device Software earlier than 4.1, allowing data not recognized by the BlackBerry smartphone to be synchronized to the BlackBerry smartphone.

    Resolution

    It is not possible to restore the Address Book database to a BlackBerry smartphone with BlackBerry Device Software 4.1 or later. This is by design.

    Cause 2

    Your data in Microsoft� Outlook� may be incomplete. For example, one or more contacts could be lacking information in First, Last, or Company name fields.

    Resolution

    To complete the Microsoft Outlook data, populate the blank First, Last, or Company name fields in the address book entries on the BlackBerry smartphone.
