has anyone out there successfully updated the OS on it? if so please let me know... having nothing but problems

You should be able to update your 8530 using your computer and Desktop Manager. You can also use your phone itself to update your phone (Options > Advanced Options > Wireless Update).

There was no ota update and the phone came preloaded with .601 I successfully updated to Newest 8530 Official OS 5.0.0.734 by Smart Communications earlier though. I had no luck with the verizon one
