    turn phone capabilities off and still have my hand held or am I SOL and can"t do anything?

    You can turn the radio off that will disabled the phone and data but still let you use your media or whatever else you have on the phone.

    You should be able to go into your connections menu and turn off your networks.

    If you are traveling to another time zone, do not forget to change it. It will not automatically for you. options>time/date.
