Does edge perform well enough for you to be happy with it?

Yes... plus the device has Wifi, so I can have very fast connections at work and at home.

Also, keep in mind that the 8900 is Enhanced Edge Technology. This means it will use 8 channels for EDGE communication instead of only 2.

As Aristile said, the enhanced edge seems to work quite well. Most websites load fast, and downloads aren't bad either. If it's a big file, off to wifi I go.

The edge on my 8900 is way better than it was on my 8310. I think this is mainly to do with enhanced edge. I'm very happy with the speed.

You won't notice the speed difference when doing web browsing and stuff on your phone. But, when you do tether, that's when the difference between 3G and EDGE is seen.

i found this to be correct after using various phones on both 3G and EDGE while both tethered and phone browsing.

    EDGE works wonders for me.
Its really all I need because I very rarely use the device for browsing or downloading.

Not to mention I'm just a tad bit too cheap to upgrade my Data plan so as to not get raped by my carrier at $0.05/KB!

Edge works out just fine for me, plus when I'm home I'm connected to WiFi regardless.
