Just think of the Driftwood as a T-Mobile version of the Onyx. With a bit less in specs.

Same specs. Different HSDPA radio frequency.

How about the screen resolution on this? Is it the same as the 8900?
    It's 480x360, the same as the 8900.

No, the Driftwood has the same specs. It's the same device except the Driftwood has AWS for T-Mobile 3G instead of AT&T's frequencies.

    I want, I want, I want!!!!

I've got a friend who is a manager at T-mobile and he lets me play with the phones, when they first come in, before it hits the store shelves. Can't wait for this.

Well there's a pic of the mythical BlackBerry Driftwood, well not it's not so mythical. So who is selling their 8900 or getting rid of it for the Driftwood? I know I am. I've been waiting for this ever since I got my 8320.

I'll definitely get the Driftwood if it has UMA support. I really want 3G, but it's useless to me if I don't get a strong signal inside my apartment and need UMA there.

You would be getting 3G with the 9700, but I'm not sure if that would be enough of a bump to get rid of an 8900. Maybe if the 8900 had less App memory, but it doesn't, it's got 256 also. I would probably stick with the 8900. Of course my dilemma will be the 9530 to 9550 upgrade, which I probably WILL do since the 9550 will bring both the bump in app memory AND FINALLY (in the CDMA world) bring us wifi!!!!!!!

I think it would be. It's not like the minor upgrade from the Bold to the Onyx. All that brings is a smaller size, more app memory and a decent camera. 3G for me is like Wi-Fi to you CDMA users. T-Mobile passed on the Bold last year. I've been waiting for a 3G BlackBerry for so long and I need it because I tether. Tethering on EDGE sucks.

I'm going to just hold on to my 8900 until April 2011, when my contract expires - unless I can get out of it sooner.....

I'm just not seeing the advantages of the "Driftwood" clearly enough to jump from one phone (that I'm really enjoying) to another.

I bet it'll be more than 500 but less than 700. 8900 is still 500 w/o contract after being out for over 6 months. Tour is being sold for 600 w/o contract. Bolds been out for a while and its still 550 w/o contract.

I think by the time the Driftwood Blackberry is going to begin price rearranging. I don't think they could fly selling a phone for 700 off contract. That's even high for Nokia lol!

Seeing that I just got the 8900 earlier this year, I'm sure I'll be paying out of my a** to get this. I'll be all over it the second it's available.

Does anyone know the driftwood's size/dimensions? I'm curious to know which of the two phones is smaller (8900 vs 9700).

RIM has an interesting strategy going. It seems that they have a strategy of releasing LOTS of new models in close succession. The differences between the models are "evolutionary" not "revolutionary." The differences between the device released today as opposed to the one released just a few months ago becomes not that significant. What after all are the differences between the Driftwood and the 8900? 3G and a trackpad seems to be pretty much it.

I've really never loved a cell phone more than my 8900. I've *liked* other ones I've had but the 8900 seems to me to be kinda special. I'm not sure that just 3G and a trackpad are all that special particularly in light of the fact that T-Mobile's 3G network still needs a lot of work.

What are we really talking about here? A minor improvement in data speeds if you are occasionally lucky enough to be in a 3G area and a trackpad? That's it? Well that to me is ... well, a very minor evolution, nothing revolutionary.

Not sure what my real impulse will be when the Driftwood is released. I can sure tell you that I'm not going to be standing in any lines or paying through the nose to get one. I could live with my 8900 for a long time and be happy.
