    Hi

A family friend upgraded his BBM to BBM 8 (BlackBerry 8520) and does not find it very user friendly. I found him an external link for BBM 7, but it doesn't work (msgs not going through, crashing, etc.).

Can someone please help me out on how to properly downgrade to the previous version?

    PLEASE and thank you!

    Yes!
No solution for OS 5, though.

Download the OS for BB 8520 (you can find version number in the Settings->About).
    The download page is here:
BlackBerry - Desktop & Device Software Download Sites for BlackBerry users - US

Install the file on your PC. This is actually just files being copied to your harddrive. No program shortcuts are created.

Locate "loader.exe" and run it with no parameters.
You can use thie KB to locate it: KB21918-How to use Loader.exe and the ResettoFactory command to restore a BlackBerry smartphone to factory default settings from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (DON'T run it with /resettofactory).
Connect your BB device and click next until you can see the apps. You should be able to find BBM in the list and when you select it, it should change status to Downgrade.

    Good luck.
