I'm upgrading my blackberry 8820 for either the bold or curve 8900, finding it hard to decide.. does the curve do MSN IM just like the 8820? The features I use most are MSN, maps, email, world mate live.. I guess

can anyone help me decide? or tell me which are better out of the 2 phones.

    Thanks ^^

If u don't need the 3G, go for the 8900. More memory than the bold, also with a 3.2 MP Camera. But I need my 3G so I can give those up

Curve has more memory, just a tiny bit slower processor, 3.2 MP auto focus camera, easily accessible memory card slot (not sure on the Bold), a higher resolution screen

the memory is what I personally like more, the 3G is not a big deal to me, seeing as you are going from the 8820 to a next gen device, if size matters to you, the Bold is closer in size to the 8820.

Go to your local AT&T and play with both, see which you actually like more, they do feel different in the hand.

Bold has 3G. Put them side by side at AT&T and attempt to render the same website.

Bold 9000 has somewhat better specs than Curve 8900, except the inbuilt camera.

I live in England so we don't have AT&T =) I'm on Orange network.
Yeah I believe I need 3G so it looks like the bold is what I should be going for..
    Thankyou guys

You should also try both out to see which one is easier to type on. I found the 8900 too small to comfortably type on.

Mimiko, I think the Bold is better. I went form the 8320, to the Curve 8900 but after just a month, I got bored of it...also because I thought the Curve 8900 was a bit tiny and small (mind you, I have the smallest hands in the world) lol.

I'd go with the bold if I were you, just because of the similar body styles. the 8900 is a great device but the keyboard will take some getting used to. if you want to just hit the ground running-go with the Bold.

Looks like I'm going for the bold =) I have very small hands too but I hate small keyboards that you have to fumble around with. Bigger keyboards like my 8820 just makes it easier to type fast - and man do i type fast lol.

Thanks everyone who's been suggesting, it's helped alot and as soon as I'm home next month, I'm upgrading =D

I would say the curve 8900.....I just recently went and got the bold and was actually quite disappointed with the way it was running.
I could barely see a change in speeds and some of the web sites wouldnt even come up but on my curve everything is great...well better than the bold that is.
but still, you should go play with both side my side and get a feel for each yourself!

I'll have to see if they have any in the Orange store, because I don't get to see or handle the phone til I upgrade and order it =( I'll just have to check a store out before I order

I would go with the 8900 because of the memory availability for more apps. My area does not have 3g so that doesn't affect me whether I have it or not. I have had a 3G phone for like 2 years now with no 3G but the minute I would get an EDGE only phone, viola 3G would be here lol

I would go with the 8900 since I own one, but the Bold is really nice phone also if you want a bigger handset.

Bold has more memory than the 8900. 1GB on the Bold, I know 8900 doesn't have more than that, right?

As for the op, I too am having a tough time deciding on these 2 as I will be switching to AT&T soon.

    8900: 3.2MP Camera, smaller & sleeker / No 3G, less on-board memory
Bold: Faster processor, 1GB memory, bigger screen, 3G / Only 2MP camera

Right now I'm leaning towards the Bold because of it's 3G. Having 3G & EDGE would be really nice. I also like the bigger screen.

I've gone from the curve to the bold and I really do prefer the bold. If you go into the carphone warehouse they normally have them on display and switched on so you can try them out

I had the same dilemma just 1 week ago. Curve or Bold.
I came from an old Curve 8320.

My flatmate got the 8900, and I played around with it. Good memory. More space than you can possibly use up. Great speed, and high pixel density. It just feels like the old Curve, but looks sexier.

The Bold has a faster CPU; 624MHz for Bold, and, 512MHz for 8900. Bold most importantly has 3G.
Since you're with Orange UK, 2G GPRS is the best they have to offer. They rarely have EDGE access points. But their 3G is excellent, and has great coverage.

The camera is 2mp, whereas the Curve is 3.2mp with autofocus.

But seriously, what kind of dedicated photographer takes photos with a phone camera anyway?

If you're coming from the near retro 8800 series, then Bold is the logical upgrade. If you're never used a Curve before, chances are, you won't get used to the spaced keyboard keys.

Choose the Bold if you're on Orange UK. If you're going for the Curve on Orange, you're just going to get GPRS max.

The Bold does have 1GB memory, but that is DEVICE memory, not APPs memory. Big different there. The Bold only has 128mb of APPs memory. The 8900 has 256mb, but has no DEVICE memory.

Also LCD-wise. The Bold is missing 480 x 40 pixels than the 8900.
    Bold comes in a widescreen 480 x 320.
    8900 comes as a 4:3, 480 x 360.
