Has it gotten wet? That would explain your symptoms.

An 8800 is probably not worth the cost to try to repair. Unless you bought it new within the past year and have a warranty claim, it's probably time to consider a new phone.

I only have experience with CDMA phones, so I can't comment on a 9000 specifically. I'd suggest you look at devices with at least 512MB of onboard memory so that you can run OS 6, wifi (most new phones will have it), and GPS (varies by model). Here's a link to the Bold family specs: Bold Specs - Specifications for BlackBerry Bold 9650, 9700, 9000

I would not recommend the 9000. It only has 128MB memory, will not get OS 6, and is end of life. I would suggest the 9780, 9800, or possibly a used 9700.
