Curve not recognizing all music on media card!?!
- I have a Curve from Verizon, great phone by the way. I picked up an 8GB card at the verizon store and I confirmed that the Curve supports an 8GB card but for some reason my Curve will not recognize all the music I load on it.
I used the Mass Media Mode to load the music on; i.e. drag from pc and drop into the proper folder on my blackberry. None of files are protected, all are standard MP3.
It will recognize about half of the music and sometimes more if I reload some of the missing music. All the files are there, the media player simply won't "see" them so I can't play them.
Any thoughts? Should I load the music on in a different way?
Also another strange bug, I sometimes get an error that the format is "unsupported" when it tried to play a song. But the strange thing is that if I go to the next song, then skip back to the unplayable song, it will then usually play the song. Anybody have this one as well?
Thanks!07-01-08 01:44 PMLike 0 - Though Mass Storage mode is useful in some aspects I have always had more success using the media manager in desktop manager. you may want to try that. Also it is useful to have an MP3 player app. I use flipside which i believe it a great program but there are others out there.07-01-08 01:56 PMLike 0

I believe it has to do with the format of the files and whether they are protected or not. I had the same problem before. Some of my songs were MP3 and others were mp4 from itunes. It would recognize the itunes music so I jsut converted them to mp3 files and been good ever since. Also you can try formatting your card and then reloading. This worked for my wife as she had a slightly different issue then I had.07-01-08 02:15 PMLike 0 -
- This issue has nothing to do with whether or not he is using Roxio's Media Manager! (he can load media using Media Manager or through Mass Storage mode... either way will work!)
The problem could be that you did not format your card when you used it for the first time. I have run into issues when attempting to use microSD that were not formatted on my Berry prior to loading media.
But, more than likely, this has to do with your media files being protected. If you downloaded the music from iTunes and did not get the DRM-free MP3s, then you are not able to use it on anything besides iTunes and your iPod
There are third party apps that can strip your Mp3s of DRM.... if you need to use one of those.
And there is no need for any other Media player besides the default BB one. It works just fine07-01-08 03:07 PMLike 0 - I have never downloaded a single song from iTunes, most are ripped from CDs directly or acquired over time from other sources. I assume none of these have DRM issues but I could be wrong.
I reloaded the music using Media Manager and got the device to recognize more albums, but again it's not "seeing" all the media that was loaded. Some of the music it's not recognizing is ripped from CDs that I own, so this issues is not entirely a DRM conflict.
Just to clarify, I have formatted and reformatted the card a few times and always have this same issue.07-01-08 03:14 PMLike 0 -
- If that is the case, is there any way to strip the files of all the apple nonsense that might cause the conflict?
Still, this doesn't make a lot of sense. I have been working with the same music files just for consistency. Sometimes the device sees the files, sometimes not. In the latest upload, it recognized some others that it had not in previous attempts. It also will not recognize some that did load in the previous times. There doesn't seem to be any valid pattern.Last edited by mikos; 07-01-08 at 03:33 PM.
07-01-08 03:27 PMLike 0 - I have had the same issue regarding all songs not loading. Finally figured it out. Create one folder on your desktop and copy all songs into the one folder. Do the sync using Roxio and all songs will load.
When using multiple folders and syncing one at a time the problem is consistent - never know how many songs will load.
I also noticed if you use most of the SD card the problem also shows up. I have and 8GB card and the suggestion above fixes all the issues. There is definately a BB software bug which needs to be addressed.07-02-08 09:18 AMLike 0 - The plot thickens...
Well I downloaded Media Sync that was released yesterday and it's a slight improvement, probably got the blackberry to recognize about 10% more music this time.
I also downloaded Flipside and it recognized every single album I have on my blackberry, so I guess that is a good thing but...I hate the interface. Album art is nice but I would prefer a list, like the BB media player. I find the swooshing through albums to be highly annoying and the fact that you can't sort by a variety of methods unlike BBMP is pretty much a no-go in my book.
So I am back to square one. Anybody have an update on how to get my cuve to recognize all my music? I tried all the methods that others listed on this thread and still no luck. Or does anyone know if RIM is aware of this and will fix in an upcoming release?07-24-08 09:06 AMLike 0 -
- make sure that the music is the right audio format or else you will be able to view it but it will not play...all of mine have to be mp3 format

07-24-08 10:23 AMLike 0 - I am having a similar issue, my music is being found but most are unable to play, mainly ones from CD's that i own that i ripped to iTunes. They are in an .m4a format, but even when transferring from DM and converting for optimum playback, they still do not play. Some of my mp3's are doing the same or it says "device media processor is busy"07-24-08 10:25 AMLike 0
- i do not own the 8330 but my company just got in a whole bunch of them....i may just have to experiment with them to figure out wat might be the problem...
is this when u load music onto the phone itself or a memory card?07-24-08 10:39 AMLike 0 - It when I load music onto the SD card. I have done it through the Roxio program, the new Media Sync released yesterday, and just drag and drop via explorer. Each time it only will recognize some of the music. All my music is in MP3 format.
This is happening to other people at my company who have the Curve. I am running 4.3 software. What I find strange is that Flipside found ALL the music, so there is something out of whack with the BB software.
I'd be curious to hear your results after you test a few out. I will try windows media player next. And the beat goes on...07-24-08 12:09 PMLike 0 - I have never downloaded a single song from iTunes, most are ripped from CDs directly or acquired over time from other sources. I copied all the files over to the computer, then went in each folder and deleted the BBTHUMBS file and then reformatted my card.. and then recopied the music back over. Now i have all my music again.. it was so frsutrating, but with help from people on here it got fixed.. hopefully that helps..07-24-08 12:53 PMLike 0
- make sure you have the latest OS...i believe for the 8gb u have to have the latest OS or it wont work...also make sure it is in the correct format...prolly mp3 or mp407-24-08 12:55 PMLike 0
- Well I give up. I have tried all the methods suggested and I am running the most current OS available from Verizon, 4.3. There doesn't seem to be a valid reason why this is happening so I give up. I will live with the 5 or so gigs of music I have...and might switch to the iPhone07-29-08 12:00 PMLike 0
- I've had the same issues. I did notice though that when using roxio. It does not allow me to "convert for optimal playback" or any of the other 3 options available. Maybe that's a reason why?
I have downloaded the ripped from cd files over and over again and still only half the files appear. Does anyone know what to do?
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com10-09-08 12:01 PMLike 0 - Check out the CrackBerry thread referenced below. If you're experiencing the same problem I had...the only resolution I know of is to upgrade the OS to version 4.5.x. I now have over 1300 mp3s on my media card and the native BB media player recognizes all of them.
http://forums.crackberry.com/f52/mp3...62/#post78425010-09-08 12:42 PMLike 0 - Still having some issues, I can "see" about 65% of my music. I have Verizon and they are still listing v4.3 as the official OS for the Curve. Hopefully with the upcoming launch of the Storm they will finally support v4.5 or v4.6 for all blackberry devices.
Can I just update the software myself? Does this void any warranty? Should I just wait until they support the newer versions?
Guess I can always use my iPod until they do...10-22-08 09:43 AMLike 0 - Still having some issues, I can "see" about 65% of my music. I believe this will void your warranty and limit your ability to receive technical support from your carrier.
The decision to upgrade or wait is yours to make, and should be based on your comfort level with two things: 1) performing the OS upgrade yourself (fairly simple if you follow the instructions) and 2) invalidating your warranty.
I upgraded to 4.5.0.77 several weeks ago. It went smoothly and I'm pleased with the results.
It's your call - good luck!10-22-08 12:33 PMLike 0
